Missouri just processed a kid, Anthony Watkins, something we didn't really do quite like this with Pinkel or Odom.

You seem some really bad optics coming out of it for the coach but on the other hand the coach isn't really allowed to explain why the player was processed, we only get accounts from the players for the most part.

I always try to imagine what kind of things the coaches would say if they really could.

"I had a player I really thought we needed to add to make the team successful. This other guy took the opportunity I gave him 3 years ago. He smokes the most weed, and does the least amount of voluntary work on his own and with teammates out of anyone, so I cut him to make room for someone else to have a chance"

That kind of thing.

Thoughts?

I think at least 10% of a roster is actively trying to process themselves at any given moment in time, and coaches actively trying to hold it together. When the need arises the coaches don't necessarily get rid of the kid, they simply let him get rid of himself.

So no sympathy from me.

You shouldnt. There are plenty of players on the team that pay for their own schooling. They show up to every workout, do all the summer conditioning, all the grueling practices, are used as tackling dummies, etc all to only get their named called ONE time on Senior Day. You either love the game or you dont. If you get processed at Mizzou, youll probably have an opportunity elsewhere if you just got processed because you werent quite good enough.

College football is a business. Most all P5 kids and even FCS kids that get processed will have a lower level school they can land at and complete their $100,000 education and $2-5,000 a semester cost of living stipend.

All AD’s will be “processed” if there’s someone better. All coaches will be “processed” if there’s someone better. Same with most every employee in America, either own your own business or risk being “processed”. Tenure only exists for professors.

Scholarships are only guaranteed on a yearly basis. They're not a 3-4 year guarantee.

Coaches jobs and their millions in salary are dependent upon the whims of 18-21 year olds.

I can't really blame a coach that processes a kid who isn't holding up his end of the bargain. Especially if he's exhibiting some behavior that could cause team issues as a whole.

Yes, I feel bad for the kid. He is a victim of the over penalizing of Mizzou by the NCAA and that's a shame. Missouri is restricted to 81 scholarships for the 2020 football season.

What's to feel bad about? For him personally it sucks, but overall it's an opportunity for someone else. Someone who for whatever reason is deemed to be more deserving and/or able to go further.

Unless you're employed by The University of South Carolina as AD or HC. Then you have job security no matter how bad you shite it up.
