If you transfer from FBS to FCS, you don't have to sit out a year. If you transfer from FCS to FBS, you do.
If he goes down to FCS, he's not coming back to LSU.

Per the Family: Rumors are not true and Mathieu will be announcing Wednesday his transfer plans (Most likely McNeese State).

Wrong! UT offered. He commited to LSU. TM was never going to Bama whether they offered or not.
