I just don't know about that fit. Will be interesting to watch.

Fertile recruiting grounds and a weak conference

It's his Alma Mater, but honestly I thought Virginia would have been the perfect fit for him

And he played there...

I thought the same. Maybe he feels the calling to his alma mater? Best of luck to him, just don't take Eason with you Mark.

Me too. He'd have elevated the level of talent there, made them a consistent bowl team I think, brought some excitement.
But hey, maybe he is revved up and ready to win at a national title level again and he think he can do that at Miami.

I would be surprised if Richt is willing to take this job. The program is just such a mess, then combine that with a poor fan base (even during great success) and the hour long trip from campus to the stadium and I just don't think Richt would want to deal with the hassle.

So you could say you thought they were a 7 on the ...Richter scale?

exactly. the right coach can still win a natty at theU.
other than sc or uga, i'm not sure any other openings are better.
people talk about all the peripheral horseshite, but as far as winning championships, theU is still up there.
the facilities on campus are actually really nice, they just dont have an on campus stadium or one even close to campus.
the fans down there are fairweather, but if theU is winning, they'll be there.

He'll go down to Dixie and stop all the shootings and drug activity. Saints do that.
I still cant believe he'd pass up that Carpets Of Dalton gig.

Yea, we have (at least I have) almost been thinking about all this from a "where he go be comfortable and not have pressure" point of view. Almost like he is going to go give his services to a school where he can pick them up a bit and do semi-retirement.
That was probably not the right way to look at it. He clearly thinks he is still an elite coach that can win big and Miami gave him the best opportunity to do that (by far). Throw in the alma mater angle and it makes perfect sense.
Good for him.

Will be a disaster. They don't have the funds to hire top notch recruiters or have great facilities. They have to rely on the inner city Miami kids and all the warts that come with them. And Richt has shown he doesn't deal with that. You need a Butch type guy to make that program work.

as far as cush job with no pressure, great college, atmosphere, pay, etc. uva would have been the best choice.

Wonder how he will feel about playing games with no fans there

Yea, that's a good description of my "fit" thought. Just doesn't feel like it is going to be a good match.

Yep, but I think it is obvious he wants to win big and of the opportunities Miami is probably the best for that.

They are tweeting Richt is taking the job at Miami.

That's gonna be so weird for uga fans seeing him on a different sideline. It's still strange to me seeing Tubs in another team's colors.
