2010 Auburn followed this formula. 20+ seniors lots of good not necessarily NFL talent players but lots of experience. Throw in a superstar on O and Superstar on D and you have a team that doesn't beat itself with a couple of game changers to turn Ls into Ws.
That is exactly what I am talking about.

Indiana has Mendoza as it's star and the supporting cast is almost as strong.

You could make the case 2019 LSU. Ensminger and Brady put together a well coached machine around Burrow. Then you had the defense. You have heard a lot of things said about Ed O. You have never heard it said Ed was a bad defensive coach.

What is best is a team of experienced 4 and 5 star recruits who are coachable and have 3 years experience together in the same system.

That is what Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama were doing.

The portal has changed that. Few four and five stars recruits are willing to spend years developing before they start, and schools can’t afford to pay them all like they are stars.

Those players may have been 2-3 stars coming out of high school, but they are now more talented and physically on the level of what a 4-5 star recruit is PROJECTED to be.

Intelligence has very little do with it when it comes to knocking someone's dick in the dirt or running a legit 4.4 in full pads in the fourth quarter. These guys simply developed late and perhaps to your point of IQ, learned how to play the game at this level better than most.

Most of the faults you allude to are not related to low IQ but to a lack of character and desire.

After they reach campus, HS rankings are out the window. Indiana is playing with experienced players.

They are also old af. More 6th year seniors than underclassman. Average age on offense is 22.5.

Look. The game has changed. If you cannot stack 3-4 deep with high end talent you WILL get beat by the more experienced and more cerebral team of all you have is a few guys with raw talent chasing money.

How do you think Indiana is suddenly accomplishing this? Yes, they’ve found an incredible coach. But they don’t assemble this creative roster pre-NIL. Those kids don’t even look at transferring to Indiana.
