Skip coached for damn near 2 decades.

And Vitello is on his way. Vitello was hired at 37 years old and and Skip was hired at LSU at 36. He and Skip have a lot of similarities through their first 6 years of coaching as a first time HC.

The fact his winning percentage was that high in a game of this type is amazing.
your right, that is amazing. And the fact the Vitello was only a year older than Skip was when he got his 1st chance, speaks to how much time he has left to coach.

I wish DVH would go ahead and retire so Vitello can get to his final destination. He would leave Tenner tomorrow for the Arkansas job.

SEC baseball in 80s and 90s, not anywhere near as competitive as it is now.

Isn't that somewhat due to the fact that there are more games and more teams in the tournament now?

I'm gonna have to report you to the mods for using logic and reasoning.

You’re about five years too late buddy. Why would he leave a place that can win a natty for a place that can’t.

A Tennessee fan's opinion on baseball, I could not think of anything I give less fricks about.

Had to get through 5 other teams in his regional. Remind me, how many teams do you need to navigate to get to Omaha in the current format? I’ll hang up and listen. TIA

Built in bye? No. That’s not how the format worked. Try again

Not if you lost one and got to the losers bracket. Why did the one team who won the first 3 games not play a semi-final game? Oh, that's right, they had a BYE to the finals. Stop while you are behind.

Look, Skip really struggled with 64 team format. He was 1-2 in Supers. Tony on the other hand is 3-1 in Supers.

You mean teams in the losers bracket play more games? Surely that doesn’t happen still. Oh wait, never mind

Nope teams like Jackson State got one of the auto bids in the 48 team format which left out about 16 power 4-5 teams who get the at large bids. They still get an auto bid but now they are one of 64 teams, not 48.

There were only 19 auto-bids in 1998. The other 10 had a play-in round. There are 30 now with no play-in round. So no playing Northern Kentucky in round 1, followed by Evansville to get to Omaha. What a gauntlet

P5 wasn’t a thing in the 90s. Fullerton, Pepperdine, Rice, Wichita St, Long Beach, etc were among the best programs in the country. None of them were “P5.” That is a football term coined during the BCS (except it was P6). It wasn’t even part of the vernacular back then because it didn’t exist
