How much longer can Auburn really expect to hold on to Malzahn?

The original plan was 3 years, I didn't think that would happen but Malzahn has kept his word.

It all depends on what is open after this year.

Kirby Smart is nowhere near 65% the man Gus Malzahn is.

Yes our defense has sucked since he has been there.

I see your point and agree with you to a certain extent. The guy does have Nick Saban at the helm who is one of the best defensive minds in college football. Malzahn runs every single aspect of the offense, so really he does more.

that is sabans d not smarts. smart is learning from the best though and will eventually be very good when the d is his which will be when saban leaves or smart gets another job.

this isnt a meyer mullen situation where its kinda equal on who installs and does what. this is saban with smart learning the d.

I believe two to four years... His daughters are attending Auburn and love it... His wife likes being with the girls... The girls want him in Auburn...He has a great life. So IF the right opportunity comes along then maybe he goes, but he will be very very selective....

Depends on how the team does this year. Obviously if we struggle, the demand for him isn't gonna be there and the SEC gets to deal with him again in 2012.

As far as I could see on the sideline in the 2nd half of last year's Iron Bowl, looks to me like Saban gets all the credit and Smart gets all the blame.

I think he'll be at AU until he establishes the rep and cred that will get him a major job, a la Richt from FSU OC to UGa HC.

He ain't there yet. But another year or two of churning out offense and he will be.

I don't think Gus Malzahn, at this point in his career, feels the need to be a head coach at a Vandy or a Tulsa (just for example).

On top of a base salary of approximately $400,000, Bud Foster's latest contract extension guarantees him a deferred compensation package of $800,000 if he stays at Virginia Tech through the 2014 season or if Coach Frank Beamer resigns before the 2014 season. That deal also makes him one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the country.
