Mitch most likely decided to attend Southern Cal so he could get as far away from mommy as possible.

Hey look...it's a picture of Mitch Mustain on Mrs. Malzahn's Instagram from the 2011 BCS Game.

I read the article and I am not even sue why the ole hag is mad a Gus. Sounds like she is upset about playing time and style of play, but I would assume Gus had limited control over those things in his role as an assistant coach
Gus also apparently offered the kid a chance to follow him to Tulsa and a coaching position at Auburn. Not his fault that the kid decided not to take those opportunities

He should've been on an NFL roster during this time, preparing for the playoffs had Gus not done him wrong.
Sweet consolation prize, I guess.

How did Gus prevent him from going to the NFL?

So it is Malzahn's fault Mustain wasn't good enough? Whatever Mustain ever was he owes to Gus.

You're upset because a coach won't admit he had serious friction with another coach?
To what end does it profit Gus to do that?
It's not lying to politely say "Thanks for hiring me and giving me a shot in the college ranks". It's the kind of dialogue coaches routinely engage in while in public. Of course coaching staffs have vigorous disagreements out of the public eye. And assistants often depart in a hurry for friendlier confines. Why do they have to admit to it to make you happy?

By using him as a pawn for his own selfish purposes.

It's like any job you have. You don't bash your former employer. You just move on.

How did that prevent him from going to the NFL? Gus Mustain were only together for one season.

As an impartial observer I think the Mustain family has a collective screw loose

Sounds like if Mitch should be mad at anyone it would be Houston Nutt for benching him.
Sounds like he bought into his own hype and thought he could be the man at USC and wanted to prove to Gus that he didn't need him after all. It didn't happen and his life has been a world of shite ever since.

And a degree from USC is legit.

The OP and that count mom must think. Gus runs things at SC.

The 3 ring circus that Gus threw him into stunted his growth as a QB by totally fricking him up in the head. Turned the kid into a headcase and he never recovered.
Maybe Gus feels bad (BCS game invite) for using him as a stepping stone. I don't know the answer to that.

Mustain spent 4 seasons at USC, but lets blame it on Gus for him not making it to the NFL.
