I'm reminded of Charlie Brown shows and the teacher's voice. That's all I hear right now!

Cecil Newton forgot to tell son Cammy that he was being sold and now the Auburn SID forgot to tell coach Gene Chizit that HBO was leveling serious allegations against his team.

I guess we could chalk this up to mere coinicidence????

Pretty sure Ted Bundy was equally pissed that no witnesses were called in his trial that he didn't murder.

Pretty sure Chizik's point was of all the Auburn players contacted, 13 total, they only chose four who were willing to say they rec'd money.

So Chizik's defense is, "Hey, we don't pay ALL of our football players at Auburn..."?

That's awesome.

You do realize there isn't only 1 number for auburn that goes to Chizik. They called the university. Not him.

I'm sure the university could reach Chizik for HBO.

Why didn't the SID just tell Chizik HBO would like to speak to him?

present players who offered statements to the contrary

do you take statements from bystanders that didnt see the incident?

I like that our distinguished friends who support the athletic endeavors of the fine institute of higher education known as Auburn University are, to the death, insisting that:

Player A: Says he received money for playing big-time college football at Auburn is a LYING SCUMBAG PUNK WITH AN AXE TO GRIND

Player B: Claims to have never gotten paid is a fine Christian kid who is OBVIOUSLY telling the truth.

This whole thing seems pretty elementary to me. HBO did some investigating regarding pay-for-play at Auburn. They talked to 13 players, and of those, 4 had stories to tell about receiving cash to play at Auburn (that's a pretty alarming 30.7%). The other 9 did not. Since the story centers on players who got paid, they ran with the specifics of those. I doubt HBO made any statement to the effect of, "The other 9 players did not report getting paid; therefore, they are liars and not worthy of being on the show." They were not on the show simply because the show was not about the players who didn't get paid. The show was about the players who DID get paid. Pretty simple equation there.

I further suspect, but certainly have no inside information about it, that HBO did call the SID's office and seek comment. SID's office reacted as most would with a defiant, "We are not about to dignify your report by commenting on it." And so it goes.

At some point it would be refreshing to see someone - ANYONE - from the Auburn fanbase say, "You know what...we got some ugly stuff going on here, and I would like to weed out all the garbage and have a program that does things the right way." But I wouldn't hold my breath.

I worked in Sports Info as a student at LSU and 100% BOOK IT the SID immediately called Chizik, the AD, all the Associate ADs, etc. and they went into a war room meeting to decide if they should respond.

So yes it is disingenious to say that he was not contacted. Since no media organization is allowed to contact the coach directly, contacting the SID is de facto contacting the coach.

You really think HBO is going to post video of players they know are lying? We're talking about a credible and well-respected group of journalists. They aren't going to let just any Tom, Dick and Harry come on their show and start throwing out wild and crazy notions like AU didn't pay them.

Forgettin is getting pretty bad in Big-Time college ath-a-letics. Jim Tressel forgot to tell anyone about being alerted to the players selling their trophies and drawers. Bruce Pearl forgot to tell the NCAA about his violations when they asked him about it. Even forgot what his own kitchen looks like when they showed him a pic of the kids in his kitchen and he said he didn't recognize it.

So what you're saying is that he didn't know that HBO contacted the SID?

That seems strangely familiar . . .where have I heard that before? ?

pay for play has been around since college football started we all know that. the fact that the auburn fans on this site just flat out deny it is wrong. Auburn is under the microscope because of Cam so this type of thing is bound to come out. so just get ready for the striping of scholarships and move on.
