Obviously everyone can't hire Bruce Pearl so when considering other candidates, does Amaker generate any excitement? He's done a solid job at Harvard but I don't know if coaching certain SEC schools would be considered a step up or down at this point?

I'd take a plastic bag and an old shoe over Grant.

I have defended Barbee a pretty good bit, but I now feel the same way you do.

He failed at a solid basketball job in Michigan... what makes anyone think he could do better at a job with less resources and national recognition?

frick it...why not!

He should stay at Harvard. Minimal expectatoins and apparently he eats breakfast with professors and hangs out with the smartest ppl on the planet. Cambridge is nice too, apparently.

Amaker has found his sweet spot at Harvard. He's doing a lot with the limits imposed on recruiting by the Ivy League. Plus, he's got 100% job security; a nice place to live; and zero pressure to win.

As others have noted, he's already failed at a big time program with a big time budget.

From the article
quote:

We’re talking about a guy who set a host of records at Duke as one of Mike Krzyzewski’s star players in the 1980s and later spent a decade on Coach K’s bench as an assistant. Someone who guided an overlooked Seton Hall program to the 2000 Sweet Sixteen and put together one of the nation’s best recruiting classes for the following season. Someone who guided Michigan to three 20-win seasons in six years when the program was dealing with the crippling aftereffects of the Ed Martin scandal.

What would you give for three, consecutive 20-win seasons? Everyone talks about the recruiting disadvantages we have and here's a guy that's able to recruit at Harvard?

Also, seems like you guys are saying Harvard is a safer bet than Bama, Auburn, or any other SEC school? Even Mizzou?

We were still under sanctions though.

It was 3 of the last 4, not 3 straight.

we don't have the support and resources of a Michigan. They've won a national championship in the last 25 years and have been to a handful of final fours. John Beiline is nothing special, and look what he's done there.

and amaker couldn't do anything with those resources.

Ok, is this something Auburn fans could turn their nose up at?

Nope...just a correction.

Amaker would be better than what we have but Auburn is not a job that is sought after.

I say we go back after Cliff Ellis.

What you and park are saying is that the best he could give Auburn is a return to the Cliff Ellis era but isn't that what we're kinda hoping for (w/out the probation n whatnot)

@park, yeah I guess we could just re-hire Ellis

I would rather Bama take a chance on a guy like Wojo who does all of Coach Ks interviews. Assuming we could even get the guy to talk to us.
