Not quite sure how any of this has to do with Gus being a mediocre football coach anyway.

You using the completely misleading descriptor of "completely exonerated" is what started this discussion.

My description was accurate. Not one single shred of evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Auburn. It was always a Miss State issue that may have affected his eligibility at Auburn.

I know this will infuriate some Auburn posters but Gus is a known commodity at this point. He will have a great year. He will have a bad year. He will have a lot of meh years. Spread that out over 5 or so years and then restart.
AU posters are infuriated more by the fact that we’re stuck paying a top 10 salary for mid-30s results.

Sad thing is, we have the pieces to put together a Gustav “great” season in 2021 (whether or not we actually accomplish it is another matter). Maybe he will win an SEC title and Sexton will claim one of his other failed clients’ schools are inquiring about hiring him away from us, and this time we’ll call his bluff. Of course that would involve our admin and BOT to have actually learned from 2017. And 2012. And 2008. (Pro Tip: They probably haven’t.)

It’s these extremely low-probability scenarios that give our benighted fanbase what little hope we can muster.

That's not true. Gus making it difficult by being bad at the basics of his job. No coach is going to win by not recruiting and developing HS OL players. Gus has sign 9 HS OL total in the last 4 years. Which is why we now have two DL recruits starting on the OL. Also he has ignored DL recruiting too to where we now have to start 265lb true freshman at DT, buts it's cool because remember when we signed Derek Brown 5 years ago? We have not had a competent SEC RB since Johnson left 3 years ago, and this clown starts a 170lb midget at RB in the SEC.

Gua has no idea how to manage and develop a college roster. Gus makes the job harder than it needs to be.

That... actually isn't far from the truth.

He is Houston Nutt 2.0.

Mediocre season, mediocre season, bad season, good season, mediocre season. He does just enough its hard to fire him unless he really steps on his pecker.

Which, I should add, is what finally got Nutt at Arkansas.

This is almost entirely accurate. I say almost, because Malzahn has not had a losing season. He's never had a "bad" season, just mediocre and underwhelming ones. He's not at all a bad coach, but if Auburn would fire Bowden and Tuberville, I don't see why they wouldn't give Malzahn the boot for similar results.

Gus must have paid him to say things like that to keep him at Auburn!

$150,000 is not $180,000.

In reference to the MSU issue.

False. Gus is a below average coach that a program like Auburn elevates to mediocre. An ok coach wouldn’t have a terrible bowl record and go 0-fer on the road vs Auburn’s 3 biggest rivals. A monkey can win 8 games at Auburn.

Ok if you are a Georgia fan :(

For us, not so much.

I would say he is a riddle wrapped in an enigma, but he is just confused.

I completely disagree. Gus is way below OK.

AU wins a championship in '10, then makes it back to the game in '13 and Gus is unable to capitalize on that success. He killed all that momentum in '14 by losing to MState and TAMU and we settled back in to our historical averages. Yet we've kept the dude around for 6 more years hoping he can capture magic once again. It's a joke.
