Posted this originally on SixPackSpeak, but wanted to share here as well. Dis Gon be Good

Congrats on winning your tough regional. I have a Bulldog roommate, so I've been paying close attention to your team and even made a trip up to Starkville this year for my first time (LSU series). Fantastic venue for watching college baseball. Needless to say, our house will be divided this weekend.

For those who are traveling to Charlottesville for the game:

Transportation: Charlottesville has a small airport that can be expensive to fly into. Another option is to fly into Richmond which is an 1 hour east or fly into DC which is about 2.5 hours northeast.

Accomodations: There are multiple hotels depending on what you're looking for in terms of location and price. If you want to be near the park (walking distance), check out the Cavalier Inn. If you're on a budget, the Econolodge is an option, but again, you get what you pay for. If you want to be near The Corner (will expand on this later), the Red Roof Inn isn't a bad deal. There are more upscale hotels just down the street as well (e.g., HIlton). I'm not too privvy on the downtown scene.

Things to do and see:
- The Corner: Charlottesville is a small college town and this is the hub of college life. Plenty of bars, restaurants, and some shopping. Bars I would recommend: Boylan Heights, The Biltmore, the Virginian, and Trinity Irish Pub. Restaurants I would recommend: Christian's Pizza, White Spot (get a Gus Burger), Little Johns. In the morning, make sure to grab some Bodo's Bagels for some coffee to fight the hangover.
- Downtown: There’s a shuttle bus (it looks like a green trolley) that runs for free and will take you down there and back. There’s a place called “Millers” which is a bar/pub where Dave Matthews used to play and bartend. The band formed here in Charlottesville. There’s a nice pedestrian walk area for downtown where you can look at knick knacks, eat/drink, do whatever. Millers is the main thing I would recommend there. South Street Brewery is also a great place for food and drinks. I"m not as well versed on the Downtown scene, so others may want to chime in.
- For something off the 'beaten path' see if you can find Wayside Chicken for some of the best fried chicken in VA (and quite possibly my life). It's a hole in the wall though.
-Grounds (campus): Look y'all...I'm not even going to lie. You're going to come here and think "this feels like Ole Miss". It is what it is. We call our campus "Grounds" because we have to be different. We don't call ourselves freshman, sophomores, etc. Instead there are 'first years' and 'second years', etc because Thomas Jefferson believed education was a lifelong pursuit. Our girls wear sundresses to games and guys often dress up (more for football). The list goes on, but yes, this place can be what some would call 'elitist'. We're just proud like any other school, so please don't take it the wrong way. But if there's one area where I will not backdown and be coy, it is our Grounds. It truly is one of the most beautiful campuses in America, and there are very few who rival it. The Rotunda and The Lawn are the central pieces (design by Thomas Jefferson himself) and combined with Monticello are a UNESCO World Hertiage Site. I won't go into full detail on the 'academic' side of things as this is a damn baseball game, but you should at a minimum see this area. It should be easy to access as it is near The Corner and ballpark.
- Monticello: this will require a drive (20 minutes), but it is worth it.
- Blue Ridge Mountains: About 30 minutes away, but worth the drive (take the Skyline Parkway). If you have about 2-3 hours to spare, hike up and down Humpback Rock. It's a medium hike up, but the view is absolutely worth it.

I'm sure some other UVA fans will share their own opinions, but I hope this at least gets you started. Again, welcome to Charlottesville, and I am looking forward to this match up. I know we'll be hosting some very knowledgeable and avid baseball fans!

Also, if you're looking for our "main" message board, go to www.thesabre.com. Also, while there I would puruse our "traditions" page which describes a lot our history and why we do the things we do (like "Wahoowa"). LINK /

A quick look at our team (from Daily Progress):

Record: 50-10
Head Coach: Brian O’Connor (10th season at UVa; 461-159-2)
NCAA history: 13th appearance, two College World Series appearances (2009, 2011)Projected lineup: LF Mike Papi, 1B Jared King, RF Joe McCarthy, CF Brandon Downes, DH Derek Fisher, 2B Reed Gragnani, SS Nick Howard, 3B Kenny Towns, C Nate Irving.
Projected rotation: LHP Brandon Waddell, LHP Scott Silverstein, RHP Whit Mayberry.
Fast facts: Twenty-eight of Virginia’s 57 games were against NCAA Tournament qualifiers. The Cavaliers went 20-8 in those games. ...UVa joins South Carolina and UCLA as the only schools to host Regionals in each of the last four years. ...In 196 at-bats this season, senior second baseman Reed Gragnani has struck out just nine times. He is the fourth toughest batter to strike out in the nation

What's the name of that sandwich place off 250 in the Exxon station? I'm blanking on the name right now, but those sandwiches are incredible. Need to get back down to C-ville soon.

BTW, for the board, some UVA posters may advocate Little John's on the corner as a solid food option. Don't listen to them. Place is overrated unless you're 18 and blacked out. Just my two cents.

I thought maybe you were thinking of Durty Nellys but I looked it up and I don't think I've ever been there. Interesting.

No idea his salary, but the guy has proven himself as one of the best coaches in the country. UVa baseball was atrocious until he was hired. A big part of the turnaround was an investment into the program with a new stadium and national search for a coach. That investment yielded the right hire. Hope he can win a NC soon. If not this year, next year the team should be ridiculous with all the talent returning. Preseason #1 is likely if Arkansas allows UVa to have it.

Hahaha. It's an institution and I've enjoyed a few hundred sandwiches there to be sure. Still, I can't handle it if I'm sober. The quality has deteriorated consistently over the past 5 years.

Btw, the sandwich place I'm referring to is called Belair Market. Just remembered. If you haven't eaten there, it's a Charlottesville must.

I'll vouch for Charlottesville being an awesome college town.

My ranking of ACC College towns would have them behind only Chapel Hill
