Makes sense. Still, how does the Rebel fanbase feel about him being there through 2014?

I seriously hope Nutt and Boone don't think that means he is guaranteed to the coach until 2014. If he wins enough next year then I'm fine with him staying but another year of less than 6 his arse is grass.

The problem will be finding the money to pay a 3 year buyout and hire another coach. Nutt will be there a minimum of 2-3 more years imo.

I think this is exactly why they don't let contracts extend this long....Ole miss should have said we will extend the extra year if you don't make us look like dumbasses next season by losing more than you win.

Ok I figured it out. Boone and Nutt agreed that the extension from last year was to be until 2014 but the State of Mississippi only allows contracts to be a max of 4 years. This was just what was agreed upon last year during the extension talk last year. Nothing has changed.

Yes they agreed via handshake last year but most normal AD's wouldn't have gone ahead and added 2014 now much less not demanded any changes after a free fall to 4-8. That's got Jimmy Sexton written all over it.

Hootie is a piece of work. I can't count the times I've said, "surely Hootie won't do ...fill in blank" and damn if he doesn't do it...straight up !

Hootie Nutt has the golden handcuffs now wrapped tightly around Ole Miss. Sweet. Dump the monkey before you get taken for more.

and it does not matter how much talent he has. He could have the 85 Chicago Bears and he would find some way to fuk it up.

Nutt may be the most brilliant man in the world. How the hell did he pull this off.

They did go 4-8 with losses to Jax St and one the worst Vandy teams in a while right?

Nutt will deliver:
- between 4 and 8 wins per year.
- give them an upset, maybe 2 per year.
- deliver a low-mid tier bowl once every 3 years.
- not be "stolen away" by any other team.

Edited for spelling

This is all Ole Miss aspires to. They should sign him to a 100 year contract. I'm serious, IMO they are a perfect fit and should spend many, many years together in mild contentment.

Maybe.

I'm saying this based on a few friends I know personally that are OM fans, and what I read on the board.

Maybe the "aspire" part is a little too strong. I know you would love an SEC championship. But I believe I'm spot on about contentment with the rest.

Nutt's honeymoon is over. Especially with his move not to make any changes to his staff, he is now officially on the hot seat, Boone also.

He never said that he wasn't making any changes.....he's just not making them right now. He'll spend the next few weeks evaluating every coach and determining which one's need to go.

Is that why his contract was extended?

I would think the honeymoon is still pretty active if after a 4-8 year, he gets a contract extension.

Usually if you are really on the hot seat you can a couple of assistants to deflect blame. If he canned Nix a lot of OM fans would be happy enough as the offense produced this year and defense was horrific.

Not getting rid of any assistants means Nutt got a big vote of confidence.
