a Heisman Trophy winner, should they really be part of the Big 6? I mean even South Carolina (Little 8) has produced a Heisman Trophy winner. The structure should probably be altered to Big 5, Little 9 in my opinion.
Maybe...but UT has more runner-ups than anyone in the country without a winner...#bridesmaidU

Peyton should have won. that Heisman was almost as big of a joke as Ingram winning one.

Wow, good thing you got this in this week for Post of the Year consideration!

They were never really part of the big 6.
I'll tell you what's irrelevant

Who's been in the running?
I'm pretty sure Heath Shuler and John Majors.
Tennessee has had 4 runner-ups in the Heisman.
Peyton Manning - 1997
Heath Shuler - 1993
Johnny Majors - 1956
Hank Lauracella - 1951
George Cafego finished 4th in 1939.

UT is totally and completely irrelevant to modern college football. They are not a part of a big anything. They haven't won an SEC title in almost 20 years and hired their 5th choice as HC. Think about that, 4 coaches told UT to frick OFF before they had to settle for Lyle.
Pitiful.
Imagine if schools always got the first coach they wanted. Bama would have gotten Rich Rodriguez instead of Saban.

Hank Lauricella also finished runner up

You must be a retard not to get into Princeton since pawpaw buttchugger was an alum. That makes you a legacy. I guess you went where they let you in.

You could have gone to Bama, but you didn't, probably because you were an LSU fan during your college years.
But hey, your degree did get you that sweet gig as a bag boy at the Piggly Wiggly.

Why is a USCe fan trolling Tennessee? I mean, at least we have academics to work into the conversation if we want to troll. What does USC have except UF's hand-me-downs?

Yeah, that LSU & UF have contributed nothing to the SEC in the past 30 years.
If memory serves, LSU was the 1st SEC school to win 10+ conference championships in each of the Big 3 sports (FB, MBB, BB).

Response thread. And we've been fricked over twice for the Heisman in favor of a defensive player and a player from a 2-9 team. Like what the hell? Anyway, I presume you're a fan of a little 8 school who hasn't won a natty in your lifetime.
I'm looking over the voting for 1956 (I assume that's the "2-9" one you're talking about) and you'd be better arguing Shuler because, man, Jim-fricking-Brown finished 5th while leading Syracuse to a 7-2 record in 1956. I'd take Brown as the one who got screwed that year.

Something to consider:
Mike DuBose
Dennis Franchione
Mike Shula
all managed to have a 10-win season at Alabama
Not only that...Dubose has won an SEC championship since the last time Tennessee did.
