re: Georgia fans: what's the in-state 'rivalry' with GT like for the fans?

The UGA vs GT rivalry from the UGA side is pretty straight forward.
If UGA wins is means almost nothing.
If UGA loses it's ushers in an incredibly sucky year of hearing from normally invisible GT fans constantly.
There are some rivalry games that feal great to win. This isn't one of them.
This is one of those rivalries that means nothing if you win but it sucks horribly if you lose.

Although the Bulldogs have dominated the series this century, 71-39-5 is lopsided, but not ridiculously one-sided.
When you consider that GT would have to win the next 32 years in a row to draw even it seems it is ridiculously uneven.

But to answer your question...old timers still think of GT as a big rival and chief rival. Most fans have moved on to Florida and Auburn in that order then GT. This might change if GT turns it around. Maybe they have after Saturday. Maybe not. We'll see. They have a long way to go.

The older boomers have PTSD from those 50's and 60's losses that cause them to put GT on the pedestal, even if GT goes 0-12.
Similar to Gen X having our own PTSD of the 90's and 00's where Spurrier & Meyer kicked our arse.
Tennessee gives me the most PTSD from childhood. I was 20 years old before I could remember Georgia winning. I was in the upper deck and didn't feel like going down on the field, but the 2000 Tennessee game was one of the most underrated electric Georgia games ever.

Sept 6,2003 was the home opener against Auburn at Grant Field. 1st game for new north endzone upper deck.
It was a disaster to get in to Bobby Dodd and the seatings sections/rows were incorrect once in.
As we were working our way in to the stadium a girl behind us stated “I hope it does not fall in” and started smiling.
Naturally we asked her about it. Turns out she was an Auburn grad who worked for an independent engineering firm who was hired to inspect the stadium during the summer of 2002. She said rebar broke through on the structure requiring an inspection.
Later in the years the original construction engineering firm was involved in a multi million dollar bid rigging, bribes and tax evasion.

Exactly how we felt about osu. No benefit to playing the game from our end

The only disaster/thing that fell apart that night was the AU WarEagles

There is no way that Ga Tech gets the typical rural support that is usually associated with a "little brother" Ag school.
I grew up in Georgia, and there's a lot of truth in your post.
Though, I'm always amazed when I travel around the state (still have a lot of family there), as to the random support Tech has in the outlying rural areas. There are families all across the state that send their kids to Tech, because it's a phenomenal school for what it does. Many of those grads leave the metro ATL area, though, and work all across the country.
Tech doesn't get sidewalk support, and never has. For the most part, they really haven't wanted it. To be a Tech fan, you have to have gone there, or have sent kids there. It's almost unheard of to pull for Tech just because.
It has a wealthy alumni base, and a helluva grad school. Brent Key may just be the guy to get them back on track.

Auburn only has one name. Tigers!
That other junk is water off a ducks back and old hat for knuckleheads who can’t read and comprehend.
Any hoo…. Touché!
Congrats to Buzz for breaking a 9 game losing streak with Reggie Ball and Calvin Johnson against 8-5 Aubie and win #4 out of the last 20.

What's the current state of y'all's in-state rivalry with Tech?
It is not a rivalry and hasn't been for a while.

I'm in my fifties. I remember when it was indeed a rivalry, and it seems odd to me that the current generation doesn't consider the NATS to be more than an afterthought. There's even been some chatter about dropping the annual game, and that seems blasphemous.
I lived in OK as a boy and maintained a passing interest in both OKST and OU. Last year, I formally picked sides by enrolling in a grad program at OKST; so, GO POKES!! :)
It is interesting to be part of alumni bases on both sides of such lopsided series.

Losing to them and making light of it on a radio show will get you fired…just ask Jim Donnan.

Been shite for a long time. A lot of us have wanted to call it off in recent year when they were playing the triple option gimmick. We have lost some good players in that game when heading into the seccg the next week. I guess if they’re going to play reall football again and be competitive we will rekindle the rivalry.

Auburn has 3 names, everyone knows this.....but War Eagles is a much cooler name than overused tigers, and you do fly an eagle around the stadium which is also cool AF

We8ve been just as competitive as the rest of the SEC vs. yall in the Kirby era (minus Bama)

I seen a lot of people saying it doesn’t matter much. Except the older UGA Fans but I might be in the minority bc it means more to me and I’m 29 I hate tech frick tech losing to them sucks and their fans are pieces of nerdy shite god forbid when they have beaten us in my opinion there’s no reason ever tech should beat us

UGA was located in what was once the "backwater" college town.
It was specifically set up this way to be close enough to Atlanta but have enough room for the Ag school.

Honestly I've never paid much attention to this in-state rivalry, but if it's anything like any of ours it's very one sided yet the side on the losing end are the ones most pumped up to play it.

I'm 65-years-old and officially an old timer, and Tech isn't a big rival at all in my view. Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee, are our big rivals. If Tech fails to give us a game this season, we should think about dropping them.
