Sidewalk mentioned this last night as a rumor. If that is what’s really at the root of this, then it all makes a lot more sense.

As a UGA fan, I have not heard this. Where are you hearing this? Certainly hasn't been posted on the biggest UGA message board and UGA coverage/recruiting site.

Go for it LSU. Texas couldn't pull it off even while being the ESPN darling and having about 7x more population than Louisiana.

The Bham radio station WJOX midday show yesterday said the UGA president was one of the leading voices in the room when admin gathers, not just in this situation, but in general. I had never heard this either, but the notion was that shite doesn’t get done without his support. No direct info about his stance on this issue. More like “if stuff is happening, he wasn’t throwing his weight against it.”
I know, rational discussion has not really been on the table for the last couple of days, but the way it was presented was pretty interesting. Their take was that this was about the bigger issue of the SEC trying to establish itself as a governing body replacing what the NCAA used to offer. They presented it like LSU knew this was the direction and was on board with that direction. The other schools were pissed about LSU going against the conference leadership, especially because the SEC was following the lead of the B10. LSU not immediately shelving the idea of adding pro players as outlined in the released conference rule, presented that the SEC couldn’t even govern his own member. The lawsuit by the players, which was assumed to be at the encouragement of LSU, was a further poke in the eye to not just the commissioner, but all the other schools. Both sides started posturing and then let this nonsense spiral out of control. It’s not Sankey pushing this hardline response, but the other member schools. No idea if any of that is true, but that’s how it was framed.

Was just talking to my Notre Dame friend today. He said the only other team that he'd even think could possibly be successful would be Texas because of how huge it is. But even then, your alumni are not spread enough across the country. Notre Dame, due to the Roman Catholic church, has fans everywhere. I mean there's just not a lot of people that care about LSU football outside of Louisiana. I'm not sure selling your TV rights to NBC is gonna give you the Notre Dame money these baws think it will.
And we also noted that Texas, decided to give up their own network to join the SEC. I would assume that decision was made knowing the better financial choice was joining. Hard to see how leaving would be a better choice for LSU.
Bobby Dodd had a top program at one time called Georgia Tech. You can trace its downward status directly to the day it chose to leave the SEC.

Well it does clear up a little bit of what happened with their president. Pretty obvious he also was in on having a governing body until his coach wasn't and I guess the gubenah called prez and told him to cool it. Still though, wouldn't vote against. Their bluff was called. They decided their hand wasn't so great after all.

I edited for errors and added a little more context. Got distracted taking the dog out. From a UGA perspective, is y’all’s president really highly thought of? I would guess he is one of the let cooler heads heads prevail forces that helped lead to yesterday’s de-escalation

I still hope this is the eventual outcome. I don’t like any of you motherfrickers anymore. Y’all are some straight up bitches and you deserve each other.
It’s only a matter of time before the SEC home office is in Austin anyway. Hopefully by the time you all figure it out, LSU is long gone and in a superior conference.

Good point about Texas joining. It would be a financial loss to leave, and was probably only considered if we were expelled.

Yes. He's well thought of, though Georgia alums on here can answer that better than me. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him and most have said they love his support for the athletic dept.
He's also one of only two SEC presidents with a law degree. (There may be others, but I think it's him and OU's president.) It's crazy to me how every LSU fan thinks Sankey is just doing things without talking to anybody. On this one, if he didn't want to do it, he would've been pushed.

This baffling to me too. I don’t think the SEC commissioner has been great in general by any stretch, but he isn’t the author of the conference response in this situation.

Texas had guaranteed money from ESPN for the Longhorn Network. ESPN was the one losing money and the contract was about over. Somehow Texas got the better of the deal over ESPN.

I seriously doubt the LSU president was pushing that hard against the SEC, beyond what they were told to do. The steering wheel of this political mess came from, and still comes from, LA's biggest politician. The Governor was out of place and pushed every button in his domain to get this to a Baton Rouge courthouse. The SEC declared war, and here we are.

Nice. We can stop by when we’re in town to play TCU and SMU to visit the SEC museum to see how we built the conference that the Whorns destroyed.
