Kinda reminds me of Tuscaloosa but on a smaller scale.

Went to oxford this year for the first time. Only place I have been where it seems that everyone in town is on the same schedule. Wake up, do the grove, go to the game, come back to grove, go to the square. That adds a lot to the experience and atmosphere.

Tuscaloosa on game day is a huge mishmash of people in every direction. You have people on the quad/at the bars/house parties/tailgating in random parts of the campus. If all bama fans went to the quad before the game, then the atmosphere would mimic the Grove.

In tuscaloosa it helps that the stadium is down the street form the bars and the quad. But if that is not possible at your campus I can imagine things coming across as subpar.

What? He's not wrong.

And for the Bama fans posting about that 2012 game, it was literally the worst Mizzou football game I've ever attended in my life. Terrible weather, terrible team, terrible game ...really didn't add up to a fun gameday. Hopefully it's better the next time Bama comes to town in 2250.

Why is ANY SEC team playing on a Thursday? Let alone the possible defending West and East division champs??

Camarohead is pretty overrated. It's a giant parking lot in the middle of nowhere with lots of drunk, white trash roaming around. It can be fun and there are plenty of great people out there, but tailgating mecca? Nah.

I don't get it either. I'd rather that game be Saturday night.

tailgate "Mecca" was a hyperbole but I can say having been to plenty at both that Arrowhead tailgating is better than Mizzou tailgating (mainly due to segmentation at Mizzou). I'd argue it's the best tailgating scene in professional sports, although might not be as good as major SEC tailgates.

It's better than other professional stadiums because a majority are in downtown settings with lots of bars and restaurants around. Arrowhead is in the hood with jack shite for nearby entertainment

I grew up in KC and have been to many games at Camarohead. The tailgating there sucks, unless you like hanging out with a bunch of loud and rowdy drunks who probably didn't graduate from high school. Mizzou's tailgating scene IS different and I am grateful for it.

If you want to get the most out of a visit to Columbia, plan to spend either a Friday or Saturday night there. This will give you time to tour the campus and hit the bars and restaurants. There are a lot of cool joints with the classic college town vibe and no shortage of eye candy either, if you know what I mean...

I am not going to defend Mizzou's game day atmosphere one way or the other, but to the Alabama fan that Mizzou-Alabama game was not a typical game day experience. First off the weather was absolutely horrible, it was the only time I have ever seen a Mizzou game in Columbia stopped and the stadium emptied. Second Mizzou was in the middle of a bad season and nobody thought Mizzou would even compete with Alabama that game (and they didn't).

I have been impressed with SEC fans and how well they support their schools, and I know Mizzou still has a ways to go, but that Alabama game is not a good game to judge Mizzou on.
