Gamecock radio host has a decent point about # of bye weeks

We only have one bye week. If you have two bye weeks like we had in certain years (due to calendar reasons), options for situations like Hurricane Matthew become more flexible.
Thoughts? Heath Kline was talking about it just now. No link or anything.

Would make sense to try this, especially in the SE where it seems things like this happen yearly.

Just no? Why not?
You give the players an extra week of rest, more flexibility in emergency situations, etc
What is the downside?

If you want to play the game at home cancel the rent-a-win game on 10/22 and play UGA at home then seeing as they are off. I'm sure the SEC office will have no problem making it happen but you have to give up the patsy.

I'd be perfectly fine with that.
Do you think UGA will give up their bye week before Florida though? Cause I don't.

Would you rather have a seccg or 2 bye weeks

Nah we playing Saturday

Yeah start the season a week sooner and have 2 bye weeks. The offseason is too damn long. That also gives us two weekends before the NFL starts to spread games out.

...we had two bye weeks 4 times and an SECCG.

I have no idea how the SEC office works. Would the give them a choice in a case like this. They would still be getting a bye week.

And then what happens next year when another storm happens and there is no patsy to cancel?
Two bye weeks would allow for more flexible options to these situations. I've yet to see a downside posted in this thread.

The only way it works (it actually did the last time Aggy had a stormed out game) is if the two teams have bye weeks on the same week. You would almost have to give the entire SEC a consistent bye week so any conference games that needed to be moved could be done so in this special week.

Given the new format and the playoffs. Your only option is to give up a rent a win(Which conference will not do because of bowl money) or have a 9 team round robin and no SECCG. JMO

It's that impossible to start the season one week earlier?

Or start the season a week early and have no scheduled games on a specific week (let's say the first week of November) so that any make up games could be played then.

Nobody is saying it would be a perfect solution, just that more flexible (albeit possibly complicated) options would be available.

Anything to screw with the NFL is fine by me!
