It's literally the only reason anyone is still theoretically mentioning us as having a chance at the tournament.
And it “literally” provided zero competitive on the court advantage going forward. Isn’t that what Avery was getting at with his “we could’ve been 10-1” swipe?

Wimp Sanderson's successful Bama era kinda setup unreal expectations,
The one where he had Rober Horry, Latrell Sprewell, and James Robinson on the same team, and STILL couldn't get past the Sweet 16?
That was my era. It was a fun time. We made the tournament consistently, but he definitely had a ceiling.
This Avery talk is premature.

Anyone calling for Avery to be fired is insane with expectations. He’s a good coach and excellent recruiter. Anyone in the SEC not named UK needs to thank their lucky stars that they make it to the tourney. This is a football league that throws some resources at BB. I like Avery and think he was the perfect hire to what AU did with Coach Pearl. Avery will have some success at UA. Just give him time. Basketball is all about building the program. Look how hard CBP has worked the student body to make such an impressive home court advantage. Get the right players in and he will succeed.
Calling for his firing is ludicrous. Who do you think would come in there to replace him?

To be fair we lost to Loyola Marymount that year, in their historic run post Hank Gathers death and it was a very close game. It took UNLV to end their run.
Also one of Gottfried's teams was just a couple free throws away from beating UCLA and going to the Sweet Sixteen in like 2004.

I have no idea. With a coach who could adjust and use competitive failure as a teaching tool it very much would have provided an advantage. Avery just couldn't do that.
So, again, his point was 100% accurate IMHO

Says the fan of the program with 2 winning seasons in the past 9 years.....that is 2 with your best fried Bruce having 2 losing seasons in a row. Avery ain't it but he has yet to have a losing season in his 3 years.

True, it seems like this team has no clue a lot of the time, is that on Avery or on being a young team ? Hopefully they will look like they actually have a playbook next year.

Also, Robinson was not on that team. He was a redshirt-freshman the next year.
