Franklin doesn't believe in painkillers or medication. He would never let it happen.

Seriously though, his injury looked painful. If it is a Grade 2 separation on his throwing shoulder, it is hard for me to think he would be back to 100% even after 5 weeks. Hope Mauk is the real deal.

You are correct. This news today is PR stuff. Even if he heals after the 5 weeks, he will not be 100% or even 95% throwing the ball. Not to mention he'll have missed over a month of game action, impossible to be in game conditioning and impossible to be sharp with reading plays after that time off. We saw it last year when he threw 4 picks against FLA in a similar situation. James is likely done for the regular season.

Not a doctor so I don't know if there's a difference, but Pinkel has now said it was a strain, not a separation.

He refused shots last season, doesn't believe in masking the pain.

Best position to take.

Pinkel said today that it is a strain, not a separation. I don't know what that means in practical terms.

A shoulder "separation" is basically a sprain of the joint. It's not a dislocation, or a rotator cuff tear, or anything like that. The joint is just sprained. Mild ones, grade 1, are generally a 1-2 week recovery. Grade 2 separations are more significant, with a 2-6 week recovery depending on how they progress in rehab. These injuries don't surgery or anything like that, they're just painful and limit your motion. And they take a while to heal because of how much you use your shoulders and arms. With a sprained ankle, you can stay off it and use crutches. No such option for a shoulder.
