Good article though. I like these excerpts:

quote:

"One mark of a good coaching job is you don't ask a kid to do something he can't do; if he can't kick a 50-yarder, why are you letting him try it?''

quote:

"Alabama came up short, they didn't play their best football game; I was disappointed,'' he said. "I kinda thought this was maybe one of the best teams of all time...they don't have a quarterback, they don't have many good wide receivers, and their kicking game was lousy.

If saban plays that game straight up with field position bama probably wins.

This is the first week, since I began following football, that I realized coaching and special teams were not important aspects of the overall team.

I'll have to think about that game again. Taking out those two components, maybe Bama was the better team.

Short and to the point

quote:

LSU went on the road as a slight underdog; out coached, out rushed, out kicked, and out defended their opponent. therefore, LSU is the better team. why is this a hard concept to understand?

It kind of blew my mind that he did not do this. Then again, Saban officially sucks arse as far as special teams go.

Just for clarification, I'm talking about his overall coaching ability. I'm not gonna get my panties in a wad over a bad call here and there. If Foster can't make those kicks in practice, then I can't see Saban attempting them in a game.

Since lsu had no points after they missed the field goals, in reality, it wasn't THAT bad of a call and probably a differential of 15 or so yards had they kicked.

He could however flipped the field BIG. I also don't consider a 50 yarder a chip shot for those that keep saying "if we only had a kicker".

Good game anyway

You must have ignored Dooley, Dye

Dye coached at bama and based on his quote doesn't remember Wing shanking a punt.

Dooley has a lakehouse next to Saban's.

Not to mention, they all mad at Lsu and the Hat.

Why is John Cooper interviewed? That guy was a bum. 2-9 against Michigan if I am correct.

I don't know if y'all were at the game, but the wind was terrible. It's hard enough making those kicks, add strong wind blowing perpendicular to the field from left to right and you are asking for trouble. If u noticed he missed them both to the right. Had Saban played field position and the following offensive possessions had gone pretty close to the same as what they did in the game, you would have been looking at either getting close enough to put it in te end zone or at least a chip shot FG.

Granted that's assuming the drives would have looked the same and field position sometimes affects play calling but I don't think it's stupid to assume they would have been terribly different. At the very least, we would have been put in an exponentially better opportunity to get points than what they were. And that's all coaching.

Saban is as good as it gets at recruiting and preparing a team for games, but his game time decisions leave something to be desired. With that said, I like our chances with him and would rather have him than any other coach in football.
