Auburn legend Lloyd Nix has died at 87 years old, the school announced on Friday. Nix was Auburn’s quarterback in the 1957 National Championship season and the 1958 season when Auburn finished with a 9-0-1 record and fourth place in the AP Poll.

Nix played halfback for Auburn and switched to quarterback ahead of the 1957 season. In his first year behind center, Nix was second in the SEC in total offense. The next year as a senior and team captain, he led the conference in total offense.

That’s rich - a bamtard talking about the legitimacy of a pre-BCS title.

NEWSFLASH: from 1936-1964, whether a program was in a bowl or not, the national title was decided BEFORE the bowl games were played.

Don't expect casual Bama fans to understand how titles are awarded. They all assume their just supposed to be able to claim them based on reputation alone.

That's not a very common name. Interesting that you've had three starters with that name. Last two obviously related.

Lloyd Nix was hardscrabble … tougher than nails in an era where tough players were the norm.
