You don't take Guards at #2 overall. Ever. Period.
When you take an OL that highly, it is because he is intended to be the LT. Not necessarily right away, but eventually. You don't put them at Guard though, they're a backup RT at worst. If they are lining up at OG, it means the team isn't sure they can handle OT.
The Rams and AU fans in here can make excuses and justifications and draw meaningless comparisons and try and spin this every which way, but none of it will change the facts. The Rams just drafted a guy at #2 overall with the expectation he'd play LT for them eventually and now they aren't even sure he can play Tackle at all.
Then that's a reflection on the Rams, not on Robinson. It was widely known and openly discussed that the tackle job was Jake Long's. Maybe Robinson's in the future, but at the time of the draft, it was never contemplated that Robinson would play tackle right away. Like I said, at the time of the draft, the job was and is Jake Long's. Long has a history of injuries though so the anticipation is that he won't make it through an entire season and Robinson will eventually move there.
Also, please show me where the Rams have said they aren't sure he can play tackle? I missed that quote from the coach.

Long was signed to a 4 year deal before the 2013 season. He wasn't signed because the jump for Robinson would be difficult. His contract was signed well before anyone here heard of Robinson. If Jake Long hadn't signed the contract a year before, Robinson would be at tackle right now and will likely be the tackle of the future. He simply isn't the tackle right now because Long signed his deal in 2013 and it was going to be his job until he's injured or his contract runs out.

Robinson may be as good as advertised but it's hard to tell based on what he did at Auburn. Malzahn's system has a way of putting player's in advantageous situations. That's a compliment to Malzahn and not intended as a knock on Robinson. It's just hard to get a handle on a player's ability to play at the next level when they play in such an unorthodox system in college.

Add to the fact that he has been a pro for 60 whole days.

Fluker and Warmack stepped right up and played, Robinson was drafted higher. Could it be that Alabama's system prepares players for the NFL better than Auburn's does?

Haven't even practiced with pads on and you already got the starting line-up in your hand?

No I am doin' it RIGHT. I just busted Chizzin Aint Easy's post talking about Fluker, that thing was a year old and coming from some commentator,NOT the coaching staff. Fluker started out at right tackle played well and started all year, and even filled in at LEFT tackle for awhile because of injury to the starter. Linking a year old Bleacher Report article from some hack.
Chance Warmack had a very good rookie year and will be a returning starter,as will Fluker. Now Greg Robinson may come on and do fine, but IMO he was not a Top 5 pick to begin with. Way overrated. You expect someone picked that high to come in and play tackle right now,not 3 years from now.

quote:Where did you do that? Also, how dense are you? You were quoted as saying neither Chance Warmack nor DJ Fluker struggled as rookies. I provided examples saying they did. Yes, they are old articles, just like this one will be this time next season.
I just busted Chizzin Aint Easy's post
Here is another link on Chance Warmack's lackluster season as a rookie.

The NFL more than any other league drafts more on measurables than on the field performance. CGM's system is irrelevant. College coaches don't recruit solely based on field performance. It is a science. For OT alone it is about arm span, hip flexibility, quickness, etc…no scout worth a cent is worried about the style of program a player plays in at the college level. They are smarter than that.

Read the date on the BR report. Some hack gave his opinion before the year started on Fluker and Mr Fluker showed everyone that the gentleman that wrote that has no clue.

I could take ANY OLineman in the NFL go through the tape and show you plays they got whipped on. He (Warmack) started every game and I trust his coaches more than some internet expert.

Kind of like the OPs link.

Not at all. The GM said he would start out at guard and much of the rest of the story comes from Robinson himself.
