That's true, but that list becomes absolutely absurd once you get past the big money institutions.

Yet still there is no Indoor Practice Facility for the football team.

Actually, there is ~45% of an Indoor Facility so... eat a dick?

I have nothing against the service acadamies, but WTH, Forbes? I can only guess that cost factored in here in a big way.

Put into some perspective, though, using the FULL Forbes rankings referenced by the original poster that include all schools,

You mean to tell me that there are a bunch of private schools in this country that are considered to be better universities than UGA AND Florida and, by extension, every other school in the SEC?

Well, I for one have had about enough truth for one day. I think I need to go lay down.

It's also hilarious he would bring that up in his argument since adding private schools in the mix, it further distances Florida and UGA from the other schools in our conference.

There are much better list than Forbes
Truthfully UF is far and above over all other public universities in the SEC
UGA is not even AAU. Which is huge but at least you have one of the best publishing houses in the US for public universities

Forbes list is not based on anything except on what an university will pay for good publicity much like US News
The QS World University Rankings is the best in terms of using actually calculated data

Mizzou and A&M are AAU and we are routinely listed above them.

Our biggest (arguably only) draw back to receiving an AAU invitation is one of the things that got Nebraska kicked out a few years back: we don't have an on-campus med school. Recently we've tried to establish one but the state med school in Augusta has basically hamstrung the efforts in the board of regents by disallowing UGA to proceed with a medical campus which would essentially kill the enrollment in Augusta.

The difference from an AAU university and a non AAU university is the quality of professors

Professors are measured on what the bring to the university in terms of research money. AAU universities conduct research while non AAU schools teach what AAU universities researched

I just wondered
Yes I attended UT but I have no hard feelings towards A&M
It is better for the state to have two large great universities but one is falling fast while the other is rising based on their future connection to the public university elite

Actually the difference is all a matter of being in the AAU club that picks and chooses what other schools it wants to be in its club. Professor quality is only a single metric used and, ultimately, AAU status is just another badge of honor that universities slap onto their homepage and admissions info

I have no issue with UGA. I always viewed the university as a great school and thought they were AAU. I do not know why not. Maybe GA Tech has something to do with it.
To say that AAU is not important is not understanding what makes an university great compared to the rest. If your major is in the sciences it is very important even with the social sciences to attend an AAU university compared to one that is not. Based on actually conducting the research that becomes what is taught across the country.
Humanities less so as the other majors.

Correct. AAU is huge. The fact that UGA grads are puffing up their bird chests over some internet list is hilarious. Notice how there's no UF fans in here.
