Without taking the bait just know that SC pumps out about 25,000 more students each year than Clemson. That has built up in the SC's favor pretty significantly throughout the state and makes us the flagship and most well known in this state believe that.

you think so?

I'm not flaming so much as stating an opinion

To me there's no question that Clemson is a bigger college football name than South Carolina

I bet a lot of folks in the Northeast, North, or on the west coast would struggle to name USC as part of the SEC

I can't speak to the desires of high school kids in South Carolina but I would guess most would be more interested in playing for Clemson or a name program out of state than playing for South Carolina

Really? Considering ESPN struggles to figure out what state Clemson is in kind of invalidates your argument.

And perhaps historically but not with Holtz and Spurrier at the helm. They've brought us plenty of attention regardless of performance on the field.

You can tell that to Sidney Rice.

I sure am glad Bama found out about Andre Smith's agent issues before our game in the Sugar Bowl.

No, wait...what I meant was...nevermind.

Considering the textbook thing was still going on I am glad we found out too. I get the joke but us being on probation, under investigation and Smith playing would have killed the program. Fla is not currently under investigation for a different matter while on probation.

people struggle to place most schools in the south unless part of the name identifies it's location

Auburn identified in Georgia comes to mind

And RE: recruiting. Idle curiosity made me look up the recent team rankings (I looked back through 05) and seemed to show Clemson usually finishes with better recruiting classes than USC

And that kinda only makes sense considering USC has probably had better coaching of late - but only won 3 games in the last decade against Clemson

Ha. Yeah, I wish UF would have found out before the Sugar Bowl. Because even without one Pouncey, UF was still going to murder Cinci.

Now it'll probably have to be vacated. IF the allegations are true.

Oh well.

That's okay. Our compliance department is run by fools, too.

Also, just an FYI, getting way out in front of this stuff is huge.

UF was in a much bigger mess during the Tank Black fiasco but because they were so far ahead of it, they stayed out of trouble.

The AD said himself he doesn't think it's a UF compliance issue. More of a legal issue.

It might cost UF the sugar bowl at most, unless something else comes out, but UF might not get in trouble at all.

But the main thing that Florida fans should worry about is now the NCAA's going to start investigating them, something else could easily come up.

Just like a Grand Jury or depositions for a lawsuit. People talk....and they talk and talk and talk.

Which goes against your "bigger name" argument.

Perhaps but since rivals started ranking classes (2002) SC has had the higher class 5 out of the 9 times. But the gaps between whatever rank the teams come in aren't usually that large and only a handful of "stars" better. Which obviously doesn't always translate to on-field performance.

Thats how Tommy Bowden kept his job for so long, by beating SC. Both of the school's goals are to win the conference title. By that time of the year both teams know how that goal turned out. All for except last year (when CU was going to the ACCCG) both teams knew that was a lost cause. CU however seemed to figure we may have not won the conference title, but at least we still have a chance to beat these guys.

Now there were several close games (00, 01, 02 05, 06 07, CU winning 4/6 of those) but there were a couple of beatdowns in which SC didn't even seem like they wanted to play. It almost seemed to become a mentality thing (similar to the question of why UGA has struggled with UF so much lately asked here not so long ago)
With last year, our overwhelming experience compared to Clemson's going into next year, and them coming to Columbia the year after I can only hope we take advantage of this and Garcia goes 3-0 vs CU in his career.

They might as well investigate every school for this agent issue. It happens everywhere.
