ehh you implied that Clowney was the only player on a defense worth a damn and then as evidence said you didn't know anyone else on the defense. Solid back peddle though
My original post:

I'm not sure Clowney is overrated - I would say though that one player can not compensate for an entire defense while one player can almost compensate for an entire offense.

I'm sure LSU had their insecurities during their decade in the desert as well.

maybe...but reading texas ags message board before 2012, it was like: holy shite, grow some balls...

Just wondering who you would pick and how long it will take. We start playing annually in 2014 so it could be a big/fun game early on
Also some similarities between the teams from last year
In 2012:
Both finished 11-2
Both lost to LSU and UF (aTm at home, USC on the road)
Both finished 3rd in their division
Both beat the team that finished first in their division (USC>Uga at home, aTm>Bama on the road)
Didn't realize this, kind of odd.

Lemme think about SC not having any instate talent for a moment ...
Here is a comparison of the number of 4+ star rated high school recruits between Texas and S.C.
2013 Gamecocks 1 out of 4 in-state 4+ stars
2012 Gamecocks 2 out of 5 in-state 4+ stars
2011 Gamecocks 3 out of 6 in-state 4+ stars
2010 Gamecocks 4 out of 13 in-state 4+ stars
2013 Aggies 12 out of 45 in-state 4+ stars
2012 Aggies 7 out of 38 in-state 4+ stars
2011 Aggies 2 out of 41 in-state 4+ stars
2010 Aggies 6 out of 49 in-state 4+ stars

The difference these days is we are keeping the majority of them in state, at home, at the flagship.
No you are not.
2013 you got 1 out 4 star in-state recruits
2012 you got 2 out 4 star in-state recruits

A&M gave up 57 to LA TECH
1. We were without 4 defensive starters in that game, including one of our safeties and our best CB. Depth was an admitted issue for us last season and for a portion of the game we were forced to put our starting SLB at nickel back.
2. We were winning 27-0 with 5 min left in the 1st half, before the worst pass interference call of all time on a 3rd and 18 extended their drive and allowed their offense to get going. If that call isn't made, we get the ball back, score again, and the game ends in a blowout.
Go to 58:30 to see for yourself: LINK
3. Starting with that flag, the refs wouldn't allow any of our DBs within 5 yards of Patton without throwing a PI. Seeing as we had the worst known crew in the SEC that game (Ritter crew I believe), the officiating was absolutely horrible.
We definitely need to improve our depth, which we are through the 2013 and 2014 recruiting classes, but pointing to that game as some sort of unquestionable fact that our defense is terrible is extremely ignorant.

4 stars + aren't the only recruits with talent. also the state has been noticeably down the past two years, which is why we went into GA NC and FL more
Posted on 4/24/13 at 12:29 am to Sheetbend
Well dang. Looks like we've secured a higher percentage of top flight talent from a far richer reserve.
So shocking.
So shocking.

Holy shite. Is 27-0 not already a blowout? How does one bad call excuse 57 points?

Agreed. Are we shifting the discussion from TAMU and USC's ability to acquire top flight talent to whether they can identify it?

The W is all that matters. Was that the longest A&M football game ever?

you have to identify talent before you can acquire it
thats why recruiting rankings suck. everybody looks at the stars
