The listing is for the whole metro. I'm not sure they even bother to rate metros under 500k people, which NWA has only had for maybe 5-6 years. Probably be close to 600k at the 2020 census.
Right. This is NW Arkansas as a whole. The area is a great place to live and the economy has been in a boom period for close to 40 years now.
I've read some projections predict the population of the two counties that make up the Ozarkopolis (South of Fayetteville up to the Missouri state line) to hit something like 1.5 million people by 2050. Which is just insane considering how small that area was just 50 years ago.

At the 2000 census, the metro population was right at 300k.
It will be close to 600k at 2020, having doubled in 20 years.

My God... I just realized... I'm old enough I can remember when Bottom's Up was the only strip club in town.

I try and avoid NWA. frick that traffic.

I'm old enough to remember when Springdale was the 99% white redneck cowboy "suburb" to Fayetteville, and two-lane roads were the only ways out of town in every direction. Bentonville and Rogers? Where they frick are those places, anyway?
It's interesting to live in a place and watch it transform, but it makes my head hurt sometimes. We have more shite to do here, and growth luckily took place after many cities enacted decent standards for signage, etc, but I miss how quiet and easygoing it used to be here.
I drove thru Farmington at rush hour yesterday, and my God, it's like being in a Dallas suburb. Seeing tract houses on hillsides in Prairie Grove hurts my feelings, too.
I fear we are only at the start of the real growth curve, and that sucks. Walmart could drop 15,000 more tech jobs in our laps any year they choose to.

Went to Fayetteville once. Seemed like a nice area.

Rogers wasn’t much even like 10-15 years ago, and now there is like $400 million worth of development going on in the pinnacle area lol.
An interesting fact is that there is a higher percentage of nonprofits in Northwest Arkansas than any other place in the country.

Its still a wonderful place to live, but its not the place I moved to over twenty years ago. Well. Times changes and places do to.

I have no problem with this ranking.

13 years ago, the freeway around Pinnacle in Rogers was literally just fields. Now, it feels like Frisco, Texas. 10 story office buildings, outdoor mall, ampitheatre, mixed-use development. And soon, Top Golf.
Rogers also has the potential to have the 2nd best downtown in the region. The infrastructure and Lake Atalanta are great down there. It will probably always be third to Fayetteville and Bentonville, though.

It's a nice town, with lots to do year round, and lots of good, engaged, enthusiastic and smart people.

As a Farmington native, this gives me the sads. It was a small town, population 2,500, when I graduated and now I barely recognize parts of the town. So much about my youth is gone due to development which sucks.
