up to high 90's but you better have a brand new ball with few imperfections & it's going to look like 120 mph from the standard 40' cages with no hand break to sync it.

Tried it and wouldn't advise it.

Meh, I used the batting cages all the time back in high school. I didn’t have any issues with 90+. I could hit that all day!

Was a catcher and only had one guy ever top 90+. I wore a sponge in glove. Was incredible how much faster the ball arrived.

I used to hear the catchers say they loved a fast pitcher because it was easier to throw out someone stealing 2nd. Makes sense if they're getting the ball in their glove quicker, then they have more time to throw the guy out.

You can't hide the sound of a 90+ hitting the mitt. I saw a post on the last page about the sound of a 90+. Some would sizzle, but some wouldn't. The one tell was always the sound of the ball hitting the mitt.

74 with any type of accuracy. Just guessing but I would think around 81 or 82 if I let it go. Give me a crow hop and that first number comes up a little

I'm guessing you are near Huntsville. I have no plans on ever being near that area nor any connections near that area so a wager of $5K is not going to happen without us both attending.

Do the email thing tho... I'd go honor system for $300 @ 80 mph, you owe nothing if you can't hit it, just post the results here so we can stay entertained. Certain there is a facility close enough to you that will have a stalker & space you can rent for $50 or so.. you'd net $250 if you hit the number, out $50 @ worst.

I faced a sure enough hard thrower once in high school and a couple times after. Took the first pitch in HS and figured yeah I think I can deal with this and the SOB got me with breaking stuff LOL.

Playing some pickup games after that I saw one, cheated and bunted on him LOL that dude was bringing it.I was lucky to get the bunt down. The last time I was blessed to survive the guy was wild and I walked. I'm pretty sure they were 90 or above.

That pissed a buddy of mine off so bad he cancelled his subscription. I kept telling him there was no way in hell. His response........."but's it's SI".

One of my frat brothers claimed he figured out what Plimpton had done (i.e. the first letter of each word in the bolded opening paragraph spelled out Happy April Fools Day - but I think he was tipped off in some way. He either read about it in another magazine or heard it during a game broadcast.

That was the April 1st issue.

I keep in touch with my buddy. That was decades ago and he still will have nothing to do with SI.

I’m 6’4, played college hoops, benched 415 in my prime , and TBH I have an absolute noodle arm throwing a baseball. I would be scared to be clocked.
