Did Dabo actually say they were from "different planets" or is that some journalists take on what Dabo said?
Technically he's correct. It's not like he said he's from the PLANET Pluto. It's just like him saying he's from the Moon and Spurrier is from Mars. I think people here are going out of their way to bash Swinney.

... and some are going out of their way to defend Dabo. But we get it, the Bama connection and all, plus the hate for the HBC. We get it gumps, we do. Not a problem - #totallyunderstandable
ETA: Also, we realize the mention of the word "dwarf" probably rustled some gump jimmies.

“He’s from Pluto and I’m from Mars,” Swinney joked.
I think gumps are going out of their way to defend their kin.

Actually, it's designated as a minor-planet or "dwarf planet". Dabo, in the strictest sense, is still correct. Not to mention that the justification of it being a non-planet is shaky at best, as the qualifications given by the IAU could easily discount Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune as planets.
Also, if Pluto happened to be in New Mexico skies at that time, the state passed a resolution that it would be planet while in their skies. Illinois also passed a resolution that it's a planet.
Regardless, he missed a perfect opportunity. Better ways would have been, "I'm from Mars and he's from Venus - full of hot air." Or "I'm from Mars and he's from Uranus." Or "I'm from Mars and he's from Jupiter - the only place big enough to fit his ego."

Swinney did say out loud that the two were "from different planets." So what he was reported as saying is indeed what he said and he is still wrong. Dwarf planets are not classified as planets, otherwise we wouldn't call them dwarf planets and the IAU wouldn't have removed Pluto's classification as a planet...almost 8 years ago.

This should be framed somewhere

I need video of the incident to see if Dabo actually referred to Pluto as a planet.
