Good Grief, man. You make it sound like it is unheard of for a fan to identify with the team. Do you even sports?

Yep, Bama barley wins title when ranked #1 and the overall favorites, but all this doubt in Bama's ears, might help to reverse the historical norm.

--- Post I made other day below ----

Good fortune doesn't normally follow Bama teams that are ranked #1 throughout regular season or #1 right before bowl/playoffs. Bama usually puts it all together when coming up from behind #1. This was so in Bama's past with "The Bear", and I think 2009 Bama is Saban's only Bama team to win title, while ranked #1 during last game. Hmmmm.....let me check and then I'll make a list to chew on....

------ Bama's last 8 National titles won ------

--- Bama ranked behind #1 late ---
1978 #2 Bama -vs- #1 Penn St ---- Win
1979 #4 Bama -vs- #6 Ark ---- Win
1992 #2 Bama -vs- #1 Miami ---- Win
2011 #2 Bama -vs- #1 LSU ---- Win
2012 #2 Bama -vs- #1 Notre Dame ---- Win
2015 #2 Bama -vs- #1 Clemson ---- Win
2017 #4 Bama -vs- #3 Georgia ---- Win
Bama is 7-0 when ranked below #1

--- Bama ranked #1 late ---
2008 #1 Bama -vs- #2 Florida ---- Loss
2009 #1 Bama -vs- #2 Texas ---- Only Win
(But #2 Bama was behind #1 Florida before game)
2013 #1 Bama -vs- #4 Auburn ---- Loss
2014 #1 Bama -vs- #4 Ohio St. ---- Loss
2016 #1 Bama -vs- #2 Clemson ---- Loss
Bama is 1-4 when ranked #1 late

In above games, Bama had a chance for 12 titles late, but 4 of the 5 times Bama was ranked #1 heading into the final stretch, Bama came up short in those scenarios. Bama's remaining opponents this season have to love this historic data from Bama!!! Maybe Bama would be best served to have Georgia win SEC title game, but anything is possible, Bama could overcome historical-norms this season. Sure hope so, undefeated is very difficult these days and it would be one heck of an accomplishment for this Bama team.

In short, Bama would be best served if they were 4th seed, especially after considering Bama's history. On top of that, Bama has been playoff # 1 seed twice and they've lost both times. This Bama team will have to overcomes odds, their historical norms, and other bad mojo to win championship this year. The CFB world doubting Bama might just be what the doctor ordered...

So you weren't motivated for a national title game in 2016, nor an SEC championship game in 2008, nor the pick six game knowing the SEC was on the line, nor the Iron Bowl last year?

Damn, Saban ain't as good at motivating as I thought.

It’s must have been awesome to be in college while a team is winning a national title.
How much fun was it?
Any players in your classes?

I see your point. But, Alabama played the worst game they've played in over two years last Saturday and still found a way to beat one of the bet football teams in America. That does not bode well for future opponents.

Motivated yes, but Bama had no chip-on-shoulder or didn't have the same need to prove to college football world wrong. Complacency is part of human nature; college football teams/players aren't immune to this fact. Plus, if any college football fan doesn't believe a serious pregame chip-on-shoulder doesn't make difference, hasn't watched enough college ball.

Look at my above Bama data posting, and look how Bama has won their national titles while ranked #2 or below #2 late. When your 7-0 when ranked #2 or below before title games historically, but have a 1-4 record when ranked #1, there's something happening there. Wouldn't you say? College football is funny like that sometimes, and most sports are to tell ya the truth. Sports have weird patterns, anomalies, and what the heck moments. Can't
logically explain them, but they happen none the less.

Part of being a good team is maintaining effort and focus.

If you don't do that then you might not be the "best" team

Well it's also different in college because you're talking about your school

I am a gamecock, I graduated from the University of South Carolina. I will forever be a gamecock. That team represents my school which I am and will always be apart of.
