The champ is the best team. that's what being the champ means.
Uh, no.
If that were the case, why allow more than one team from a conference? The champ has already proven to be the best, why would they have to prove it again if they really were?
Who was the best team in the SEC in 2011?

You're one of those idiot kids who thought the hare should be awarded victory because he could have easily beaten the tortoise if he had been trying the whole time aren't you?

My argument is the committee's purpose is to keep the polls and on field performance from allowing 2 or more SEC teams into the playoff. I have yet to see anyone refute this.
ok i see your point now and i do agree the "committee" is there to ensure their best interests are met. I have stated from day one we should have kept the BCS formula to find the 4 teams...it will likely be a huge shite show and it is anonymous.

Its not anonymous. THey named all 13 members. Condi Rice is one of them.

LSU, now ask me who the best team in the country was.

I see it as a win-win for the SEC.
If the committee votes two SEC teams in = WIN.
If the committee votes one SEC team and a couple of substandard teams, the path for the SEC team is easier = WIN.

It couldn't be Alabama, because Alabama is in the same conference as LSU and we've already recognized LSU as the best team in the SEC - including Alabama.
So now do you see how 'champions' doesn't mean 'best team'?
Posted on 10/21/14 at 4:13 pm to WildTchoupitoulas
The best team as determined by the BCS uses different criteria than the SEC does.
The 'best' anything is the thing that most successfully accomplishes objectives of a process within the rules of that process.
Whether or not the process is flawed or unfair is irrelevant.

I was using your criteria, "champions".

Oh good, more subjective criteria. How do you define "most successfully"?
But you're saying LSU was better than Alabama at the same time that Alabama was better than LSU. You have no meaningful definition of 'best'.
'Best' is subjective, 'champion' is objective. I suggest we drop the notion of trying to figure out who is 'best' because it is beset with bias and subjectivity, and focus on determining 'champions'. To that end we should minimize bias and subjectivity by selecting only conference champions to participate in a post-season tournament to crown a champion.

ESPNU segment just discussed 2 loss teams jumping 1 loss teams suggesting non SEC teams could jump SEC ones.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 'committee' will do everything possible to keep from putting two SEC teams (or two teams from ANY conference) in the playoffs - in the interest of fairness.
Watch as the narrative steers away from the 'best' teams, to the 'most deserving' teams.

There are never going to be 2 SEC teams in a 4 team playoff.
You realize its much easier to get 2 in the top 4 than 2 into the top 2. Cause the SEC has done that before.

This is how you win the BCS
-be one of the top two teams as designed by the BCS formula at the end of the year.
-beat the other top two team.
BCS award for succeeding is NATIONAL CHAMP and is determined by consensus to be the best team in the country.
This is how you win the SEC
-have the most conference wins in your division or win any needed tiebreaker
-win the conference championship game against the best team of the opposing division
Do you see how these criteria are independent of one another? Yes, they use overlapping data, no the it is not impossible for Alabama to be the best team in the country and not be the best team in the SEC.
Try thinking of the SEC competition and the national championship competition as two entirely different sports.

In other words you can't tell me who the best college football team was in 2011.
I like my system better, no bullshite.

Everyone who says that the committee will not take a one loss non-champion over a one loss champion is either completely ignoring, or is simply ignorant of, the mock selection the committee did two months ago, when, using the 2008 season as a model, they took Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and USC. They all had one loss. They took a one loss non-champion in Texas and left out a one loss B1G champion Penn State...whom they ranked #5. And they left out a 12-0 Utah.
Four pages, and no one has mentioned it. Surprising that more people aren't aware that it happened.
So the committee has pretty much already answered the question...unless you choose to believe that they went to the time and expense to get together and go through that whole process for no good reason. You can talk about politics, TV ratings, Jim Delaney, etc., etc., etc. Or you can just believe what they've already told you.
So yeah, if it comes down to a one loss non-champion Auburn or a one loss champion Kansas State, Auburn's in.

That narrative has already started and just by odd coincidence, the first vote being released to the public is about 7 days away. Color me shocked I tell ya, color me shocked.
