I personally like Cam as #1. He did more with less in my opinion.

In my personal opinion Cam Newton is the best college qb. However, due to his issues he ended up having one starting year. But I fully admit that due to his size and athleticism, he would be my first choice if I had these qb's to choose from. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to puke, after saying that.

Yes, he had speed, power, and size yet still was able to complete 66% of his passes. Thats insane.

Yep, Burrow is not a team carrier like Cam. I wouldn’t even put him up on the level of VY or Tebow in that regards either.

I agree with you on Cam and maybe VY to an extent. But what makes Tebow a “team carrier”?

He lost a game every season. Won two titles but one he was a backup who played in special gimmicky packages. And he had insane talent around him also. Tebow wasn’t a great thrower of the football. Honestly, not an exceptional runner either, except short yardage situations. He was a great leader but so is Burrow, while also being a great thrower with better accuracy. I’d take Burrow over Tebow.

ETA: Tebow also played in the perfect time for his skill set. Spread offenses and dual threat QB’s were newer things for the elite programs and defenses were still figuring out how to deal with them

I would too, but I can still recognize Tebow's leadership skills, and charisma and that can inspire a team. But Joe has this too plus a more accurate arm. So I do agree with you, but I think you aren't given Tebow enough credit.

It sounds like I’m disparaging him but I’m not. When I say he wasn’t a great thrower or runner, “great” is in the context of the all time greats - of which he certainly is one.

In a vacuum, he certainly was great at all aspects of the game. Compared to guys like Cam, VY, Burrow, etc. - I stand by my assessment of him.

I do agree Tebow had a special “it” quality of leadership/charisma that’s very hard to quantify, and as such I almost ignore it completely in these comparisons as it’s so insanely subjective and hard to say who the best leader is. Maybe that’s unfair by me, but I simply think it’s too hard on the outside to judge those kind of intangibles in these comparisons.

Manziel passed for nearly 1000yds more (as a RS Fr) than Cam did his jr year, while leading the SEC in rushing.

Tell me more about Cam in college...

He didn't win anything though, its hard to quantify someone as "great" when they never even won their own division.

Cam and Burrow are the only ones deserving of 1 and 2 and I say that as a Bama fan

I agree that Johnny Football should be higher on the list. His ability to improvise in college is Doug Flutie like. But Cam Newton is combination of size, power, speed, and accuracy. He would beat you with his legs or arm and would let your defense choose. And unlike Manziel, he was an undefeated champion, and that is something that trumps stats.

That year, Manziel played behind an OL with 2 top ten picks and another first rounder.

He was throwing the ball to a top 10 pick and another NFL drafted WR (Swope). He also had a 2nd round pick at RB to handoff to. That A&M offense was absolutely loaded.

Compare that to Cam. He had 1 drafted offensive teammate, a 7th round OT. And despite that, Cam and Auburn were unstoppable and went undefeated when the SECW was as tough as its ever been. A&M lost 2 games.

Pick any QB in history (Burrow, Manziel, VY, Tebow) to replace Cam with on that Auburn team, and Auburn is losing 1-2 games at a minimum.

If you were gonna take 1 qbs record from 2000 to 2020 it would be AJ McCarron. Only qb starter with 3 rings 2 as a starter.

How did they manage to put the only guy that doesn't belong in the Top 5 end up number 1?

He is the only qb to be suspended during the season also.

3 of the 5 only had 1 relevant season.

This. Matt Leinhart had 10,963 yds compared to Young's 4,885. Hell even Colt McCoy had 13,253.

1. Tebow
2. Burrow (can't argue with those '19 stats)
3. Leinhart
4. Newton
5. Mayfield

I think it's pretty ridiculous to not have the ONLY qb with 3 NC rings, who was also a Heisman runner-up, in the Top 60.

AJ has the most rings.

Mac has the best season...QBR record, undefeated with a NC.

Both should be in the Top 10.

And if Mark Barron's shoulder wasn't hurt in the second half of the 2010 Iron Bowl or Ingram doesn't fumble a sure TD into the endzone for a freak touchback, no one has Cam Newton on any list. That game is still Bama's worst loss under Saban.
