G5 teams have to win a bowl game to be eligible for playoffs. P4 teams that win any of the 6 big bowl games go to the top of the playoff rankings. Any team that wins a bowl game and a conference championship automatically qualifies for the playoffs.

A school could turn down a bowl invite but they would be denying their team a chance at an automatic playoff spot.
