Personally I mean these are good for the coffee shop, talk radio and TV shows but not much more. None of these early season polls and computer rankings should get anyone riled up.

The ranking description might explain Miss St

quote:

Note: What is SP+? In a single sentence, it's a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. I created the system at Football Outsiders in 2008, and as my experience with both college football and its stats has grown, I have made quite a few tweaks to the system.

SP+ is intended to be predictive and forward-facing. That is important to remember. It is not a résumé ranking that gives credit for big wins or particularly brave scheduling -- no good predictive system is. It is simply a measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football. If you're lucky or unimpressive in a win, your rating will probably fall. If you're strong and unlucky in a loss, it will probably rise.

Not one of you tards can explain Mississippi State being ranked 13th. I didn’t mention anything about my team because it’s close to normal ranking anyhow. No Auburn and Florida should not be ranked in top 10 maybe 15-20 yes. To put Bama in front of Clemson when they have played no one and have given up more points in their last game than Clemson almost has all season is a bit crazy also. I know Clemson’s offense numbers are lower but they also played a good to decent A@M team.

Which 15-20 teams should be ranked higher than Auburn or Florida and please give detailed reasoning why

State is ranked there because of preseason numbers that will gradually fall out the next 2 weeks as new, actual game data comes in and State will in all likelihood take a tumble.

It's pretty much explained all over the thread if you bothered to read it.
