I think its on ESPN so much because there has been so much racial tension from the fans of the league...so then all of us who don't particularly care hear about it and maybe have an opinion. They can put up clickbait like headlines and get replies.

NBA finals and MLB are all you have going on right now that's big around the country. Maybe Memorial Tournament this weekend. No one cares about College Baseball on a national scale. So this is always the time of year they push WNBA since it just started up.

espn has been unwatchable for over 20 years now.

They really are. Watching the track and field championships tonight and they focus in on one favorite person for 5 minutes before a race and even if they don’t win, they spend all their time with the same person at the end of the race. To heck with all of the other athletes who’ve worked just as hard or had their own tribulations.

Each generation cares less and less about sports due to an exploding amount of entertainment options. And ever-increasingly high barriers/costs to attend sporting events.
Creating more appealing content for men won't move the needle for ESPN, because there's not enough males who will suddenly start watching sports. The female market is the only juice worth the squeeze across all demographics. This is why you're being force fed WBNA, softball, etc.
