You selectively choosing to use the definition of dynasty as it applies to the familial or political realm when discussing sports is silly.

Well that's not nice. But it's definitely harder to win a SB than a NC so I agree that's a better example of a "sports dynasty" than what Bama is currently doing.

I'm just bored at work and having fun. The SECr has gotten so out of hand that this is the only way to get some real entertainment out of it.

I was there in June. I'm heading back in about a month, but I will probably be in Granada this time around. Then I'm off to Asia and Australia for a bit.

Nah, I'm a freelance writer. I can live anywhere with an internet connection. I just decided to go out and see the world last year. I got stuck in Nicaragua, came home for the holidays, and plan to head back out in about a month.

Don't count that 3rd national title clucker until it hatches, yo.

Y'alls 1-5 all time record against Notre Dame isn't much to crow about.

Now go enjoy South Beach.

Did I like living in Nicaragua?

I did. I had a great time. I had some trouble with work--mostly due to my laptop being eaten by the tropics and dust, but overall it was a good experience. I was ready to come back to the states after 6 months, but it only took about a month for me to be ready to get the hell out of dodge again.

It was nice to be able to watch football on a television rather than a laptop.

Since Alabama beat Georgia in 08, there have been 75 AP Polls released. Of those, Bama has been ranked 1st or 2nd in 49 of them.

Meh. Bama had NEVER beaten Texas until Jan 2010. Now they're 1-7 against UT. The games and the players who played those UA/ND games in the 70's and 80s have so much relevance to 1/7/13

I know cas4t is a troll and has admitted his definition of dynasty does not match the general public's view, but i'll play his game of making an irrelevant connection between what people call football dynasties to their role in history.

There were 25 Chinese dynasties in the 4,763 years between 2852 BC and 1911 AD. This translates to an average dynasty length of 190 years, which translates to each dynasty representing about 3.9% of the entire civilization's time.

If we start the college football 'civilization' with the first game in 1869, we can translate the expected college football dynasty to last about 5.5 years. By his own methodology, 10-20 years is an absurd period of time to consider a dynasty. The periods he is throwing out would more accurately be described as 'milleniums' relative to recorded history, not 'dynasties.'

With all that said, I don't give two shites about these distinctions and what random people use to describe runs, but I had to point out cas' poor grasp on the subject.

No, you're doing it wrong. There is no definition of "Sports Dynsty" or "Football Dynasty". Go look it up. There's just the word dynasty. Then look up "examples of dynasties". Yall are setting your own standards for what's considered a dynasty. I'm using the actual definition. And when you compare them it makes your argument seem very simple minded. 5 years is a very short sample pool to use for such a word as dynasty.

Its obvious you're being contrarian for the sake of it so there's really no point responding to this.

Regardless, trying to compare a historical timeframe that encompasses over 6000 years of written history to something that's existed for barely a century isn't very logical.

Never said this. I said 5 years was absurd and we should use 10-20 years.

Just saying.
