A very thoughtful and interesting analysis of Roberts and her story, written by John Carvalho, an Auburn University professor of journalism.

This is a great read. He had me all the way until this:

Cynthia Tucker is turrble.

I wish someone with an actual voice in the media would call her out. Either produce recordings or go away. I mean, screw Auburn, but either either nail them to the wall or just admit you can't prove it. The last thing I want to read about all summer is another Bill Bell/John Bond circle jerk.

Said Blanc, "We thought we would be without Mike Dyer because he said he was one of them, but Auburn found a way to make those dudes eligible."

How do you "twist" that?

3. Which is more reliable: ESPN/NYT or AuburnUndercover?

You have to evaluate each incident or allegation independently these days because, unfortunately, there seems to be little difference in their journalistic standards.

well between MSNBC being a left wing fox news and CNN deciding that there is no room for investigative journalism in their budget the honest answer is no one.

although Al Gore's Aljazeera is promising as they're very well respected across the rest of the world. I have no doubt that with a little time and american influence they'll be as shitty as the rest of them.

Cowherd just discussed this on his show and word of advice for my Auburn friends, save yourselves the blood pressure spike and dont listen. He said "Auburn is regarded as the dirtiest school in the SEC". Another quote: "I talked to a former SEC star athlete that played recently in college and he said he was offered big money to sign with Auburn but he "just didn't want to live there". He also brought up the 7 probations and said"the program should be shut down" He excoriated Auburn to the point where even I felt kinda bad for you guys.

Considering ESPN isn't independently reporting this but rather using quote from a discredited "journalist"'s blog, I'd go with AuburnUndercover at the moment
Downplay ESPN all you want, they were just single handedly responsible for getting a coach fired. Said coach was already punished for his "crimes" when they suspended him and fined him more than many make in a year. It wasn't until ESPN made it their goal to get him fired that he was let go.

All I'm saying is whether it was their independent study or not, a company as big as ESPN decided to go with it. Nothing will likely come from this, just like nothing came from paying the HBO boys or paying Cam's dad. Mainly rival fans like giving AU fans a hard time because this is big info from a really big company, and to say AU undercover is more credible than ESPN is

so in otherwords he's doing his job. A "let it play out" stance isn't very sexy. Good for him.

It is interesting that in one post you insinuate the journalistic credibility of ESPN and then in the next post insinuate the lack of journalistic integrity of ESPN.

Come on man. AU Undercover pushing TTown suits, vs Cam, HBO, now this is not the same thing. Link me several times on a national scale in the last five years Alabama has been accused of potentially paying players. Show me where players said they knew of grade changes, show me where players knew of or were directly paid. You can't. Even if you go back as far as Jimmy Johns and his crap, he didn't come out and say (Since we know that criminals will screw the school right?) my grades were changed, I was paid, they all were paid, etc.

Come on

It's more interesting that you're trying your best to misinterpret the post. You know how powerful ESPN is. That's the point. And while I think any company that says a coach should be fired for what the Rutgers coach did yet has Bob Knight on payroll has integrity issues, that doesn't negate the fact that they have more credible info, sources, etc than AU undercover. Period.

I thought every major outlet did a story or two on ttowns menswear. Your biased classification or pigeon holing ot AU undercover doesn't make that a fact.

I'm not searching for the stories, we all know them. Free suits, free meals, beach trips, etc.

This is a new statement and not any part of what we were previously discussing. The only allegation you have now of a player that claims he knew of a grade change is McNeil regarding his own grade. It shouldn't be hard to investigate that. Otherwise you have a player possibly saying he thought one player might not be able to play in a game because of grades and then that player was able to play. Not really that insightful.

Explain any misrepresentation.

I do. Power doesn't always equal credible. In fact, it often is quite the opposite.

Like I said, based on errant reporting, there is no basis for this assertion. You are equating national influence with credibility, which shouldn't be done.
