It is really crazy how similar the teams were in performance

Especially considering it was back to back years from teams in the same division. Really speaks to the strength of the conference and the division in particular. Makes proud as a fan to be a part of it.

Only in this stupid conference would we have these teams back to back and instead of talking about how incredible it is have a battle royale about who was actually better

But that's why this league is the best.

What's really crazy is those lsu numbers include 4 teams worse than any alabama played this year(except maybe 2020 lsu). In 2019 they played georgia Southern, Northwestern State, Utah State, and drew vanderbilt (3-9 record) from the east. Those 4 games accounted for 1393 yards and 18 tds for burrow

Success rate (no garbage time): Alabama 59.3%, LSU 57.4%

Third-down percentage: Alabama 58.9%, LSU 49.7%

Total QBR: Alabama 95.9, LSU 94.7

If this doesn't tell you how evenly the two teams were matched, I don't know what will.

Lunatik,
I respect you as an honest, thoughtful poster, so I'll ask you this:
Do you consider the 2019 LSU team and the 2020 Alabama team to be an evenly matched comparison?..I'm just curious about your opinion.

I said in the other thread about this that if the two teams played 10 times that it would probably go 5 and 5 or 6 and 4 one way or the other and that neither team would probably blow the other out.

There are a lot of variables involved too when talking about which team would win. Y'all lost Waddle and Dickerson in season while we had numerous suspensions and key injuries to Marshall, Rashard Lawrence and Delpit nursed an ankle injury almost the entire season. Which 2 versions of the teams would be playing?

It's really so close IMO that it's useless to debate because neither side is going to give in.

I'm not sure why THE top tier program in all of college football would ever seek out the validation of a second tier program like LSU or their fanbase. Dream on. We're the GOAT, past and present.
