His piss poor attitude, dickhead personality, mixed with unrealistic demands had the Cotton Bowl selection committee promising they would never invite Arkansas back as long as Petrino was the coach.
He pissed off a LOT of important people by treating them like dirt, and it was starting to effect the program on and off the field
I don't think he would've lasted much longer even without the crash

Yep and Petrino could win SEC championships and still get fired. You know why he didn't get anyone to back him up while he was at Arkansas? Because he angered too many people including people with power, money and influence. When he needed help, he got none of it.
If he wasn't such an a-hole then he wouldn't have been fired.
