You realize we are super thin at RB and he would be leaving as a senior next year anyway, right?

I think it might be several things but making room is one of them. Leaving room for early enrollees to be counted for 2011. I think Phillips will take smiths role.

The coaches went a long ways to enable him to get away with alot of things, it's easy to see why he thought that.

We already have room for that. Getting rid of Smith doesn't affect that. Also, we will only be able to count back 1 if all of the recruits enroll. If they don't all enroll, they won't be taking up scholly's, so dismissing someone is not necessary. Sorry, Alahunter, your argument won't fly.

Like I have said many times, I could care less about oversigning. And Smith had more than his chance to make it.

You'll be able to sign more next yr and backcount to this year with him gone. 84 signed by Chiz in 3 yrs already, next yr will be a great crop of recruits instate. He's making room for as many as he can get.

You should learn the rules if you are going to continue to argue this point. You can only enroll 25 per year. You can only back count if you don't enroll the full 25. AU only signed 24 and is still under the 85 max limit. Eric's dismissal as no effect on bringing in new players or being able to count players back.

which means, with Smith gone, Au can now back count 2 towards 2011, when they sign in 2012. Losing a player, opens a spot for next year to sign more.

don't be this guy.

No they can't. They still can't go over the 25 max per year. E Smith isn't enrolling this year.

You should pay me tuition for the all the education I have given you on here.

If Auburn only took 24 this year, and Smith leaves and doesn't enroll, that puts yall back to 23. That opens 2 spots to back count to get you back to 25.

You would think a Bama fan would understand how this works by now.

Auburn is UNDER the 85 limit right now, as they have been for the past five years. We don't need to cut anybody.

Smith was going to be a senior next year so he was coming off the books regardless as to the 2012 class.

Early enrollees who are back-counted count against the previous class, not the 85 limit. If you enroll 25 this year, as Auburn is expected to do, you can't oversign and back count players in next years class towards this years 25 allotment, although I'm sure Saban would drop dead from a simultaneous orgasm/heart attack if they passed a rule that allowed that.

In other words this had NOTHING to do with making room and everything to do with Smith being an idiot and blowing the second (third?) chance he was given for behavioral issues. My hunch is he was smoking dope. If a player gets suspended or dismissed and there is no arrest report and no comments from the coaches about bad attitude or missing a practice, then nine times out of ten that means they failed a drug test, which teams are prohibited from making public.

Smith is not a new player. His enrollment is irrelevant to the 25 number. The 25 number is only applied as to new recruits enrolling.

no, the 25 rule only applies to the previous class. It has nothing to do with the 85 limit. If we had signed 23 last year, we could sign 27 this year and count 3 back. Next year we will be able to sign 26 because we only signed 24 this year. Smith doesn't factor into that.

That's only if Eric was apart of last years class.
