Also look at Eric Berry's return yardage per interception. 494 yards, average 49 yard return per INT. SEC record, and 4 yards shy of a NCAA record, on a THREE year career.

As for the Heisman talk and Tim Tebow. Bet you haven't seen this video.

Laron Landry
Credited with 315 career tackles, 12 interceptions and eight sacks

Eric Berry

241 career tackles in 3 years with 14 picks but only 3 sacks..

Other than interceptions their stats are very comparable..

I cant find anywhere about pass break ups.. which is a big stat imo

I posted this earlier in the thread:

Career Stats

Berry - 241 tackles, 18 tfl, 3 sacks, 14 ints (3 TDs), 17 passes defended, 2 fumbles forced, 4 fumbles recovered, 0 blocked kicks

Landry - 315 tackles, 16 tfl, 8 sacks, 12 ints, 40 passes defended, 2 fumbles forced, 0 fumbles recovered, 2 blocked kicks

Berry did get a lot more national attention than Landry, and won a lot more national awards. But remember, Landry got the big award in 2003 with the BCS National Championship. LaRon was a true freshman starter and the leading tackler on that defense. And Landry did bring in these awards:

2006 First-Team All-American (AP, AFCA)
2006 Second-Team All-American (Walter Camp, SI.com, Rivals.com)
2006 First Team All-SEC (AP, SEC Coaches)
2006 Thorpe Award Semifinalist
2005 Third-Team All-American (AP)
2005 First-Team All-SEC (SEC Coaches)
2005 Second-Team All-SEC (AP)
2004 Second-Team All-SEC (SEC Coaches)
2003 First-Team Freshman All-American (Football Writer’s Association, Collegefootballnews.com)
2003 Second-Team All-SEC (AP)
2003 Freshman All-SEC (SEC Coaches, Knoxville News-Sentinel, The Sporting News)

Landry was the #6 overall pick in 2007. Berry the #5 overall pick in 2010. Their combine numbers were really similar. LaRon ran a 4.35 to Berry's 4.47. Berry had an insane VJ at 43 inches. LaRon jumped 38 inches.

I'm just saying these are the 2 best safeties I have seen play in the SEC. I'm not saying one is better than the other. But for you to say Landry isn't on Berry's level is kind of a slap in the face, so I gotta make a case for Landry. The one thing Berry was great at was scoring and picking up huge yards on his interception returns. He was superior to Landry in that area, but as you look at all the phases of the game, it starts to even out. And again, Landry was the leading tackler on the 2003 National Championship team as a true freshman. Thats got to count for a lot.

It's not a slap in Landry's face, he's good... hell... he's great.

BUT... Eric Berry is in a league of his own. One of the true best of the best.

I'm not saying Landry isn't good, the fact is Berry is simply amazing.

You don't have to link me Berry's highlights. I saw him play for 3 years. He is incredible. How many times can I say it in one thread?

For any of you that think Berry is head and shoulders above LaRon, give me a breakdown of their game and explain what puts him in this upper stratosphere that LaRon is not in.

I saw them both play. They were both fierce hitters. LaRon was more of an enforcer with his physicality. They both had great speed. Again LaRon ran a 4.35 at the combine. Berry 4.47. I'd give Berry the edge in ball skills, even though Landry had double the pass deflections 40-17. And of course Berry picked up major yards on his picks and scored a few for the Vols. They both had great college careers. And I said they are the two best safeties I have seen play in the SEC.

Actually, I think Landry is getting crazy disrespect in this thread. Dude was #6 overall pick in the draft. He was a full tenth of a second faster than Berry at a higher weight. I have already posted all his stats. Maybe yall just didn't see Landry play very much, but I think I'm done with this argument. Yall just keep saying Landry is not on Berry's level with no reasoning for saying so.

You were not the only person on earth who saw both of them play. We all did.

The break down is this... Eric Berry makes plays... a lot of them. He is a ball hawk, and bone crushing hitter, solid tackler in the open field, awesome in coverage... he can do it all. He can play both safety positions, corner, and even played linebacker at times last year.

You keep throwing out 40 times as if it is the be all end all. Here is some news for you. Last year Taylor Mays was being compared to Berry as the best safety in the country... Mays ran a faster 40, could squat more, bench more, was taller, and heavier. ALL of those measurables, but the fact of the matter is, BERRY IS A BETTER FOOTBALL PLAYER.

Cut and dry, plain and simple. Eric Berry can play the Hell out of it.

What happened to Mays? 49th overall pick, was even passed up by his old coach, Pete Carroll for the Seahawks. Were Berry, 5th over all and the highest paid safety in the NFL.

Ok, we are not comparing Berry and Mays. You are using draft position in your argument. Landry was #6 overall in '07. Berry was #5 in '10. Bout as close as it gets.

Berry is a great playmaker. I would never argue that. BUT SO WAS LARON!!! I am not arguing that Landry is better than Berry. I am arguing the notion that Landry is not on the same level as Berry. Landry was a big hitter at LSU. And a sure tackler. I can't remember the dude missing a tackle. And he was great in coverage. As his 12 ints and 40 pass deflections would indicate.

And he was a winner. Won 44 games at LSU. And a national championship, in which he was the leading tackler on the team.

I know measurables aren't the end all be all, and i'm not throwing them out as if they are the end all be all, because I am also talking about on field production. Berry and Landry were similar in all phases. Measurables, production, draft status, similar in all phases.

The reason I shared Mays info, is because you kept refering to their measurables, were last year the same arguement was made with Mays/Berry.

You can hardly blame Eric Berry for the troubles Tennessee has had on offense, especially in 2008. That is like blaming Patrick Patterson for LSU's offensive troubles last year, and not calling him a winner.

Honestly, this is ridiculous.

I'm not even sure you understand what the argument is. Based on the premise, you would have to argue not that Berry was a phenomenal player. Because I already agree with that. You would have to argue why Landry does not belong in the same class.

The original statement that I made was that Berry and Landry are the best safeties I have seen play in the SEC. Thats it. I did not say Landry was better.

Really, I'm done with this, its late.

We agree.

But Berry is better. Its the truth. Sorry, if you don't want to accept that, but it is. Damn near every other, objective, poster agrees with it also.

To say this implys that you think Eric Berry is not a winner, which is why I wrote this.

Did you really not understand that point?

What the frick is wrong with you man? You have not given one reason to argue the point.

All I was saying is that in assessing the career of LaRon Landry, you must recognize that he was the leading tackler on the 2003 National Championship team as a true freshman, and that while he was at LSU, the teams that he was on racked up 44 wins.

So based on your argument, we should disregard that when analyzing LaRon's career?

I am not saying that I don't think Berry is a winner. I know he played dysfunctional teams. Berry was an absolute STUD. Please stop telling me how great you think he is.

Seriously, you are not getting the point. I said Landry and Berry are the best two safeties I have seen play in the SEC. Its just my fricking opinion. I am not saying one is better than the other.

And I absolutely did not blame Berry for Tennessee's losing. I did not even imply anything even close to it. You shouldn't make things up.

We agree on what? That I never said either one was a better player? Ya, we agree on that. I never said that. I believe you have a reading comprehension problem.

Dude give it up.. All you do is repeat over n over again the same things..

Are you seriously slow? You said, "I never said Landry was better." I replied, "We agree."

I'll break it down for you.

Landry is not better than Berry. BUT Berry sure as hell is better than Landry. Follow?

Wow. Throughout this whole thread I have never said one player was better than the other.

You think we agree that Berry is better than Landry. I NEVER SAID THAT.

All I have done is provide the facts on the players. The facts indicate 2 great players, which is the only thing I ever said.

And as far as Berry goes, I have done nothing but heap praise on him all throughout the thread.

You don't even understand the argument. And I am done with this. You can reply back but I'm not gonna read it. Move on bro, this is over.

You seriously don't get it.

You said

I agree with you that Landry is not better than Eric Berry. However, I believe Berry is better than Landry, and so does most objective college football fans.

Like I said I'm an LSU Fan, Landry was great, but he is NOT on the same level as Berry.

He's just not.
