Eliminating divisions in the SEC was the worst thing to happen to Ole Miss

Traditionally, they're considered LSU's biggest rival—Tulane held that spot a lifetime ago—but let’s be honest: they’re our brothers, and we’re in this together.

Look, let’s be honest, if they vanished from the SEC tomorrow, the conference wouldn’t skip a beat—same as Missouri, but they’re never worth mentioning anyway so that’s another story.

But so what? Here they are, with that elusive, almost mythical SEC Western Division Champs* title that sadly stands alone—a symbol of triumph in a place that rarely sees it. They deserve it, but will likely never hoist another banner again.

Anyone else feel kind of bad that they’ll remain an SEC punchline?

Discuss.

You seem upset that they had a better athletic year than LSU

Sad

Is there any chance that divisions make a comeback? Or, is it just not practical anymore?

I'm not a scheduling guru

Typical coonass logic.

Thanks for mentioning Mizzou, even though we're not worth mentioning.

I think divisions are stupid, but that is my opinion. I think intraconference schedules should be based on previous year results but that is probably too complicated for this hillbilly conference.

I hope not and I doubt it.

A little history for those who don't know:

Back in the early 90s, some people wanted to have the SECCG. The SEC was a 10 team conference with no divisions. But in order to have the SECCG according to the NCAA we had to have a minimum of 12 teams, and they had to be in 2 divisions.

So Arkansas and South Carolina were added and the divisions were created.

That stayed the rule for decades until a few years ago when the NCAA changed it for the Big12. Now those are no longer the requirements. So I'm hoping with the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, were just going to get rid of them.

So the SEC is no longer under any obligation to have divisions and I hope it stays that way. Too many times over the years a better team sat at home because of divisions. As if it's impossible that the 2 best teams in the conference were in the same division.

Eliminating divisions didn't stop Ole Miss from eliminating the tigers from the SEC tournament

You have that fall football win to hang your hat on but it’s been a tough year for you all hasn’t it?

I’m sorry we’ve done this to you.
