Angelo Mirando would be the perfect trifecta then.

Saban will be worn out from babysitting those two (Kiffen and Orgeron).

Not a fan of the 3-4 anymore?

It is one of the key reasons LSU has had success defending A&M and we haven't.
I disagree. That all has to do with scheme. Chavis did the best thing vs him- he chose not to over pursue Manziel and sit back in coverage and watch him make mistakes.

Besides you seem to over estimate how much these staffs interact on a day to day basis.
are you serious? Of course they interact daily.

The LSU and Auburn fans pretend like these hires aren't downright scary for opposing fan bases .
An OC who hasn't been an OC in quite a few years and who most think his success was due to another coach (Sarkisian). He also coaching QB's (something he has never done).
and a DL coach who is universally known as an ace recruiter and a mediocre coach (that's being conservative).

Saban likes bigger linebackers than Chavis. Saban has discussed this at length, and said last year that Johnny Football may cause him to recruit differently at that spot.
Would be a mistake imho. He needs bigger ILB's for his scheme.

Now we just need to lock up a solid WR coach.
Keep in mind that Kiffin was the WR coach at USC in addition to OC. Sark was the QB coach.
Also current Alabama WR coach, Billy Napier was twice previously a QB coach. Once under Coach Mac at CSU and prior to coming to Alabama the first time was QB coach at Clemson.

Gotta switch the two then. Kiffin hasn't worked with QB's ever.

Saban has taken leave of his senses.

Saban is doing exactly what he said he was going to do after the Sugar Bowl and what his mental coach told him it was time to do. It is time for a RESET at Alabama to get the edge back they lost this past season.
The decision was made before bowl practice started. That is why he has been able to move so quickly. Kiffin being in town to evaluate the offense just did not happen by chance. Saban wanted to also evaluate Kiffin and how he worked / communicated.

I don't think Trooper is up to anything right now.

I'd trust Saban too but I'd still be scratching my head at this hire. The only "edge" Kiffin brings is being a general train wreck. Going to be interesting to watch from the outside.

What if he makes Kiffin successful at Bama? Maybe this is Saban's own personal goal, to prove he's still got it.

....or maybe we are starting to see if the chinks in saban's armor. This can only go one of two ways. Either it is a huge success or a massive failure. There won't be an in-between.

Would 10 wins be a success or failure? That seems kind of the middle to me at this point, but not failure.

That depends. How are the games won? Are they because of the O or the D? What if bama only wins 9 games next season? Heaven forbid, what about only 8 wins?
I thought bama had no problem recruiting. Why go out and hire top recruiters? What bama needs is quality coaches. USC's O exploded after Kiffin left. (he was the play caller) That was just a very puzzling hire. If Auburn would have brought kiffin in, you bama fans would have started 50 threads about what a shitty hire it was.
Posted on 1/12/14 at 12:58 am to MrAUTigers
And yes, Kiffin under anyone but a Saban or Belihick clone might have made for a terrible hire.
Posted on 1/12/14 at 1:06 am to MrAUTigers
Well obviously Bama fans, and Saban expect to compete for SEC/NC chamionships. I think most fans can, or at least should realize that your not always going to win every single game every year, too many factors in it. Just saying I don't think it's either going to be a huge success or massive failure. Massive failure being a losing season, huge success equals championships, IMO. But ya I think there is plenty of middle ground, at least in a rebuilding year, can't speak for everyone though.

I want to know why Kiffin was playing Silas Redd more than Buck Allen. Once Allen got more PT after Kiffin was fired their offense blossomed. But, I know under Saban he won't have the better player sitting. So, I guess my point is moot.
