Arkansas fans- we did not say anything about the big XII. But seriously, this is a preseason ranking of the teams in the west. How do arky fans put themselves ahead of a team that beat them last year, has waaaaay more depth and talent than them, and i see the coaching excuses but we have new position coaches in Billy G., frank w, and Steve e.
Yall will be good but I think you should prove it before you start ranking yourself 1a or 2. I mean we all know in the SEC, defense wins games. LSU D>>>>> arky d

1. Alabama- They are here by default. Will have elite talent but have some growing to do on defense. They should be playing like a top five team at the end of the season. Doesn't Arky get them early? Hmmm...

2. Auburn- It's all about the schedule here. They get State, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Alabama on the road. They'll likely end up going 3-1 on their road trips. That's good enough to make a run at things. I will note I'm not sure what to expect of Auburn though. Anywhere between 2-5 wouldn't be completely shocking to me.

3. Arkansas- Don't fret piggies, I'm thinking you'll have the same record as Auburn in SEC play, just lose to them on the planes. We know about the offense, which will likely be the best in the SEC and one of the better offenses in the country. I'd just like to see a defense to go with it.

4. LSU - LSU has the talent to be in the mix in 2010, but this is a bet against Les here. It's rare to see coaches get in hot water and actually climb their way out of it. I'm expecting another frustrating year on the Bayou forcing a coaching change. Sorry Tigers, 2011 is the year to wait for.

5. Ole Miss - The offense should be absolutely putrid next year. The defense stands to be one of the better units in the conference. I'm expecting (more like hoping) Powe will make a big splash this year. The Rebels will win ugly...but they'll be able to win enough to stay out of the basement.

6. Mississippi State - Mullens has this program showing signs of life for the first time in a couple of years. The problem is, going on the road to Oxford (Egg Bowl has been good to the home team recently), Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, and Gainesville. Schedule doesn't set up right for the upstart bulldogs.

I honestly think LSU is losing a step because of Miles and Crowton..

They got the talent, but coaching is killing them.

And if it ain't coaching, i dunno what it is.

It had more to do with the RP situation and some bust recruiting prospects on the OL. The offense should be much better. The offense was very good in 2007 and Crowton was also the OC. The OL looks to be much improved which should make a huge difference.

The defense has rebounded and looks to be solid next year especially in the secondary.

I'm not sure why you keep taking this angle.

If Arkansas wins or ties the West in 2010, it will be their 5th time doing it in 19 years. That would be a hair more than once every 4 years. How many times has Ole Miss done this since 1992? In other words, Arkansas has reason to believe landing the #1 spot in the West is feasible. We've done it 4 times with far less talent, far weaker coaching and a much tougher schedule. Ole Miss, not so much.

Ole Miss was also a Top 5-10 preseason team in '09 and a heavy favorite to win the West (8 of 12 pubs posted last week had picked Ole Miss). Arkansas' highest pre-season ranking thus far is #14, with most being between #18-#24, with no one picking Arkansas to win shite.

Now, if you want to cling to the comments and posts by the radical fringe, or 12 year old kids with internet access, be my guest. But 99.9% of Arkansas fans are calling for an 8-10 win season, a warm weather bowl and a possibility of jumping up to 1st in the West with a little fortune.

I'm starting to find you to be one of the irritating, or stupid, posters on this board.

Duke, there was a thread here last week where 8 of 12 pre-season pubs had picked Ole Miss.

Reread what I wrote Capstone.

I said "If Arkansas wins or ties the West in 2010, it will be their 5th time doing it in 19 years

Thus, being in that spot isn't far fetched when you consider we did it several times with retards for coaches, far less talent and far tougher scheduling.

I didn't post in the thread so I wouldn't know how far back to look.

It was a pissing match thread.

Are Arkansas fans using the Ole Miss approach? Arkansas has still only been to Atlanta three times. Who gives a frick if you tied for it another time, if you didn't go?

You're making it more difficult than it has to be and while we agree on "who gives a frick about ties", the point I'm making is Arkansas has landed in that position.....frick it....you get it.
