New Stewart deal en route
Everyone is a free agent, more than once a year. College football is nuts.
The star freshman is already negotiating a raise for next season at South Carolina, going to make more than $1 million as a sophomore on a one-year deal.

Like it or not, a union and CBA is probably the only thing that will stop yearly free agency.

Why give him a raise? Give him base pay with bonuses that will get up that high or exceed that number depending on number of sacks,TFLs, etc. Make him hungry to keep getting better instead of just cutting him a check. I know…. Someone else will offer him the money outright but I wish all the college football team’s would do bonus structured contracts but every college would have to agree to that and i know that will never happen. Ok I’m done yelling at the clouds.

When have athletes and agents ever wanted a primarily bonus pay structure? Ricky Williams and Master P's agency? They got laughed at unmercifully for that because it doesn't protect against injury or your declining production that is out of their control.

He's a star, no doubt about it. Appears to be headed into the DE Wall of Honor at SC ... and there are some impressive ones on the wall already.
Honestly, Stewart, judging so far, may end up on John Abraham's level before all is said and done.
ETA: I keep hearing the Stewart deal is going to be more in the $1.5 million range.

I'm all for this. But truth is, if we don't pay him up front, someone else gladly will. Rules and reforms are definitely needed, but until then..

This is Carolina's way of telling the rest of the SEC to back the f off
