So I thought this was odd concerning Durkins defense at A&M last year. Nationally, they weren’t ranked that high in really any category.
However, when you look at SEC play alone, they were one of the best defenses in the SEC:
Points per game: 3rd
Rushing yards per attempt: 1st
Passing yards per attempt: 3rd
Yards per play: 1st
Opponent 3rd down conversion %: 4th
Opponent 1st downs per game: 2nd
Sacks per game: 1st
Fumbles forced per game: 2nd
Which is odd, considering by far their best opponents were in the SEC. Usually you see teams play better OOC especially when they are in a strong conference.

1) DeBoer (Harsin V2.0) took over a 4-8 Washington team. Improved that team to 11-2 the next year (175% improvement in number of wins). Then the following year went 14-1 and to the NC game (27% increase in number of wins). In 2 years he had a total increase of 250% in number of wins (from 4 to 14).
2) Freeze took a 5-7 Harsin V1 team to 6-7. A 20% increase in number of wins and a bonus CURB-Stomping by a team they paid a Million+ to come play.
One of these is better than the other.
