Leach HOF case

Outstanding.

I’d probably hate him if he was at another school, but I love me some Drink.

His run at Tech was part of a revolutionary era in Big12 football. It was a crazy time. Elite QBs everywhere. I remember Muschamp was breaking clip boards over his head every Saturday as our defensive coordinator.

We have had thousands of 6 year players because the NCAA ruled that the Covid year didn’t count. With the normal 4 OOC games and only 8 SEC games he is probably in. How many games did he play with less than 50 cleared players? Put an asterisk by his 3-7 year and take a vote.

We don't have the best college players in the HOF. Take care of that first. Stop the stupid criteria of being a consensus all-American when that crap is mostly the best players on the best teams and a ton of regional bias. (See Mante' Tao) It's past time to get great college players in Atlanta.

Drink is absolutely right! Leach is hall of fame material. If he was at a bigger program than WSU and Texas tech with more resources , no telling what number he would put up in wins. To win like that at those programs, he is a hall of fame coach in my book.

So many reasons he should be let in. Make it happen!

College football HOF is pretty weird in making no exceptions to their overly strict rules. The list of NFL HOFers that are screwed out of eligibility due to a lot of just political selections of All American teams is pretty long. First picks in the NFL draft as well so it isn't like they only became exceptional after they left college. I'm not sure they every step back and say that maybe we should have a separate set of selections that didn't quite meet their main criteria. Proud old men tend to dig their feet in.

There are about 10 or so coaches in the CFBHOF with a winning % under .600 which is what their website says is the minimum winning %. Leaches is .596. Several of the 10 or so with winning % under .600 have lower winning % than Leach. If they are in he should be.

That said jumping Christ almighty the bar is pretty low. .600 winning % in 11 games a season (pretty close to the average # of games per season for the history of CFB) is 6.6 wins and 4.4 losses a season so 7 and 4 and 6 and 5 would be the norm.

The lowest winning % among coaches who are in is Tuss McLaughry at .490. He was inducted in 1962. Had 10 winning seasons in 35 years, mostly at Dartmouth. His wikipedia page does not read as if he would be a CFB hall of famer....interesting life, marine during WW2. Was instrumental in creating the CFB Coaches Association. Frank Howard (.580) is in and Barry Alvarez (.604). If they are in Leach should be.

That being said the bar should be higher than 6.6 wins in a 11 game season. That is mediocre at best.

That completely ignores the context of what school they were at and what they were going against.

He was an innovative offensive mind.

Additionally, his coaching tree and influence on them was very impressive.
