TUSCALOOSA — A week earlier, Dre Kirkpatrick hoisted a crystal football in New Orleans.
His early-morning hours of this Tuesday, however, involved handcuffs in Central Florida.
The now-former Crimson Tide cornerback was arrested just after midnight on marijuana possessions charges in Bradenton, Fla. Kirkpatrick was booked at 12:48 a.m. and released on $120 bond.
Another former Alabama defensive back was arrested and booked at the same time on the same charges.
Chris Rogers, a senior on the 2009 national championship team when Kirkpatrick was a freshman, also was processed by the Manatee County Sherriff's Office.
According to a police report obtained by The Associated Press, Kirkpatrick was the passenger in a vehicle driven by Rogers, who was stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road. A drug dog detected narcotics, and police found the marijuana on the floorboard near Kirkpatrick's feet.
The report stated Rogers told police he bought the marijuana at a nearby house. Kirkpatrick told police he was present at the time of the purchase, but was unaware of what was being bought.
Reached by text message Tuesday night, Rogers had no comment.
Rogers, who helped execute the infamous Gatorade bath of Tide coach Nick Saban at the end of the 2010 title game, works in the marketing division of Under Armour. According to his profile on professional social networking site LinkedIn, he was previously employed by IMG Performance Institute in Bradenton.
The sports training center develops future NFL draft picks such as Kirkpatrick. The junior from Gadsden announced his early entry into the draft process in a Thursday news conference.
"I'll say it again: they've been great ambassadors and great representatives for the University of Alabama as people, as students and as football players," Saban said last Thursday.
Added Saban: "And I know they will continue to be the same kind of ambassadors for the university in everything they do in the future. I can't tell you how much we love them and how much we appreciate all that they've done to help this organization be successful."
Kirkpatrick is rated among the top 15 to 20 prospects for the April draft. The Football Writers Association of America named him second-team All-American after he had 30 tackles, broke up nine passes and forced two fumbles.
The emotional leader of the Alabama defense, Kirkpatrick became a fan favorite for his confident on-field presence.
The past year was one of personal growth and maturity, Kirkpatrick said. On Thursday, he said he's slowed down "with the night scene."
He said his close relationship with Saban played a role in that.
"You stay on your child, he's eventually going to get right," Kirkpatrick said last Thursday. "That's something he did to me, and I finally got right. I feel like I had a great time here."
The Alabama football program hasn't had many run-ins with the law as of late. Freshman Brent Calloway was arrested on marijuana possession charges in October as a passenger in a vehicle stopped on campus.

Obviously.
Couldn't happen to a better guy.

It's a shame it didn't happen in NOLA on January 8.

He is a nasty narcotics abuser and is likely mentally insane. Only crazies do narcotics.
I know about these narcotics freaks who shoot up their narcotics and steal from their parents and beat their loved ones and lie and cheat and are just horrible people.
Narcotics will screw your life up and ruin your life and have your grandmother be ashamed of you. Oh yeah, I know.
Stupid Bama-Lama's were stoned when they played LSU. Narcotics make you stronger and more alert and physically more powerful. There should probably be some kind of investigation.

Drug addicts can sometimes have an advantage over normal people who don't use narcotics, especially in sports.
I, for one, noticed that Kirkpatrick was jonesing for a bologna sandwich with chopped up Steuber pickles and some spicy mustard with melted cheddar cheese or a hot pocket several times during the game.

So Bama had an advantage because they were stoned? You've got to be an alter.

I don't even go to church, so I'm not an alter boy. But, narcotics and the constant need to munch on really satisfying food late at night could definitely lead to an athletic advantage.

I'm a Bama fan, so I sort of get what you're doing. Just be a little more subtle. Your posts are stupid to the point it suspends belief. Roll Tide brother.

I suppose, as with most message boards, I have to be careful in how I respond because you are much more intelligent than I because you have been here longer and have more posts.
But, I must say that you are being very rude and I don't appreciate it. Please don't latch onto me because I am a new Bama poster and try to teach me how to post.
I will proceed as I see fit and will stay within the guidelines of TigerDroppings and do not need any assistance from a helpful Bama fan on what I should say or how I should say it.
How about you leave me alone unless I specifically ask for guidance here if you are going to be a smug prick.
And, just as soon as I need you to guide me and let me know exactly how I need to post and in what style, so that I can be your silly little clone, I'll IM you.

No, not at all, Northshore. I have been around message boards for a bit, though. That does not automatically lead to me having been another poster on Tiger Droppings. I simply don't need this guy stepping on my toes when I am trying to join a new board.
Those kind of folks don't impress me. People like that don't seem to realize that the message board world doesn't begin and end at TigerDroppings.
I actually know how to play the game without assistance.
Thanks everyone. Now, if I may be allowed to continue?
