Tack one 2-4 more years and up the 7.5 to 8 or 9.

The new deal will basically tack on 3 years (or 4 depending on when it kicks in) and bump to 9 M.

How has he earned it? He has a similar record as Sumlin after 3 seasons.

I don’t really care how much he’s making per year. The market is out of control at this point. But I don’t understand the point or need to keep him on a 10 year rolling contract. He still had 7 years remaining on his current deal. What was the need to add 3 more years?

Other SEC programs:

Massive extension for what?
For being at best relevant and winning nothing with a senior laden team during COVID where teams faced player shortages and no opposing fanbases.

At least O won a NC.

Don't understand why schools give extensions to coaches about every year.

Can't wait for the melts if you guys fail to reach the playoff....again

Surprised there are so many Ags defending a raise for him. Wish you guys well, but damn, that's a lot of coin

It makes sense to have 5 years on their deals so you can tell recruits the HC will be there throughout their time at the school. Anything beyond that really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense

Sumlin had a great start and a disappointing 2nd year followed by the disaster of chasing off 2 NFL QB's, including one who was a Legacy, won a Heisman, and was an overall #1 Draft Pick. He recruited well but not elite.

Jimbo has been building year by year and the improvements are bearing fruit. Top 5 Finish and NY6 win with recruiting reaching new heights, possibly Top 3 this year.

Not that you care about an objective answer.

Id be curious to see coaching salaries scaled for inflation and salaries in other sectors. When LSU signed Saban for just over 1 million it was scoffed at and shocking. Coordinators are making that now.

Billy Napier at ULL makes 2 million.

I wonder if any other sector has had that kind of growth in the last 20 years.

I don’t think this will get the glowing media reaction you hope it will. Nor should it.

Non trolling: If Im a TAMU fan Im very happy about last season but Im not jumping on extending Jimbo just yet until he does it in a normal year.

One school expects excellence. The other is satisfied with not placing and being selected miss congeniality.

I'm hoping this extension comes with a buyout or some sort of pretty high pain point for Jimbo and/or any school (LSU?) that might seek out his services for their newly open head coach position.

The current contract is so reckless (the headline $75 million over 10 years itself was attention grabber) that supposedly it doesn't have any buyouts. LSU or anyone else could theoretically seek out Jimbo and he could walk away without any financial pain.

Or, one of those schools plays in the SEC and one plays in the Big 12.

This argument is lazy, stupid, and frankly tired.

Maybe that's why it keeps dipping into lower tier programs (or hiring assistant corches) for its next head corch hire every few years.

I don't deny Jimbo's recruiting has been strong but has it been so great that he truly deserved a extension and a raise? If he pulls in top 3-4 classes, I would not think it a big deal considering A&M is loaded. Time may prove Banks and Bjork right.

Last year was a decent year for y'all but LSU wasn't LSU. You have to admit that played in A&Ms favor.
