A&M has a ND problem
All of us 1-loss teams have a potential Notre Dame problem if we lose again and finish 10-2 and they win out to finish. We need them to lose at least 1, preferably 2 more.

One thing for sure is that the loser will not have any margin for error afterwards. It is very likely that their early season out of conference loss costs either LSU or TAM a spot in the playoffs, and possibly both of them.
If Alabama would let Mizzou win and they will get that spot at the end of the regular season.

Only if they also win the SEC championship. If A&M wins an SEC championship yes top five. If not and just playoffs top ten if they beat LSU.

A&M isn’t winning anyway so staying ranked is the goal. A&M won’t move up the rest of the year even with a win. Media hates them for disappointing in the past

LSU probably would. TAMU wouldn't jump from #14 to #5 though. If A&M wins, they'll jump to 8 or 9.
We probably need to beat the Aggies and the Tide to break top five.

I don’t like the precedence of scheduling a tough marquee non-conference opponent causing such a drag on a resume. What’s A&M ranking if we played incarnate word instead of Notre dame week 1? I think tough out of conference games should be encouraged/rewarded like in basketball. Perhaps playoff rankings take this into account though.
If we wouldn't have shite the bed in the last 3 minutes and won that game, we would be top 5 right now. Say what you will, but OOC games against notable opponents is what gets you eyeballs. Those eyeballs saw a total collapse in the final moments of a big game. Given A&M's track record of the last few years, I don't blame the pollsters for hedging against A&M.

I do think the Aggies, whom I have no love for, are severely underrated right now

The big difference is ND's loss was to a nobody and theylookedbad doing it. I was really surprised they did not drop more. Hard to put lipstick on that pig.

ND dropped from 5 to 18.. that’s a pretty big drop.. just good timing to get back up imo

Well when you have a preseason ranking as a bias, this happens.
Quality wins vs quality losses both need to be compared for all teams

The only ranking that matters is on Dec 8th. The AP and Coaches are crap, and even the first CFP rankings won't really matter.

A&M is fighting their preseason ranking
This is the main reason they aren't ranked alongside LSU. Also, we lost to higher ranked USC (compared to ND) at a neutral site and they lost to ND at home. Its probably unfair to A&M the preseason ranking is the main reason, but it doesn't matter.
All that matters is the CFP rankings and they will not be released for two weeks and things will have worked themselves out by then. I would almost guarantee A&M is top 6 in the first poll if they beat LSU and South Carolina.
If LSU wins, I think they gets to 6th by jumping Tenn and either Texas or Miami. Again, its meaningless.
