This. A win demands that any team coming out of the SEC with only one loss be given a benefit of doubt over an identical team record from a weaker conference.

I think a similar situation might have happened this year if OSU had been eligible and the SEC didn't win last year. With Bama being the defending champs I think they'd be in there even with OSU being eligible.
But you may be right and I'm illogical. It isn't something I care much about as I have nothing against Bama, while ND is maybe #3 on my "teams I love to hate" list.
